well the deed is done. on my return from Majorca there will be new toys awaiting me.
Went back to designer golf, a few to warm up, then hit a few 3-woods to start. then move on to the driver and finally the hybrid.
with each of them I don't get enough of a launch angle and trying to hit hard/swing faster to compensate results in a reduced smash factor.
ego trampled again - the heads in driver and 3-wood are fine but the stiff shafts in both have to go. so try a couple of different Regular shafts.
swinging slower and smoother saw longer and better flight and the majority of the smash factors well above 1.5 (up to 1.55).
the hybrid was a case apart. I've never had great success with this, plus the Yonex R shaft is an oddity in the bag. Coupled with a 19 deg head and my low launch that too has to go.
In it's place a shiny new Tom Wishon 775hs 4 hybrid at 24 deg.
and all to get matched SK Fiber Pure Energy shafts.
so at the end of the saga, I'll finish with just two types of shaft; one for all the irons down to the LW, the other for hybrid, fairway and driver.
oh, and I also got some swing exercises to do on holiday! all that's required is a cut-down shaft - and a couple of thousand reps!
