I had 5 months of shanks (yes I did type it).
It was doing my head in and I was making it worse by trying to correct it myself.
Pro called it in 2 minutes.

Please keep going and don't despair. Here is an absolutely true and completely unbelievable story. It happened today!
I have recently come down to a 15 hcp. I scored 11 pts on the front nine today. I lost my first tee shot (even though we all thought it was OK) and then shanked the tee shot at 2, carved OBB at 3, shoved one in a dyke at 4, couldn't get down in two from 8ft at 5, and didn't manage a par at all until the 10th. I then made par seven times in a row, dropped one at 17 and finished with a par at 18 for 24pts back nine and 35pts overall!

Moral of the story? You are never anywhere near as bad as you think you are. I scored 51 front nine and 37 back nine today - for a most respectable 88 off 15.

Not really much to tell Chris except that I was hitting the ball really solidly. Best I have hit it for ages. Cocked up a couple of drives but working on the alignment really helped. Felt I was getting through the ball a lot better.
James and myself took Murph and HTL on in matchplay and had a tight game. We went one up after two courtesy of my birdie, and we then held on for a few more holes before going 3 up by about the 12th. Both James and I cocked up 13 to lose it to a regulation par, and then Murph made a superb 4 down 14 to pull it back to just one up. He hit a lovely cut from out of the trees, and his ball finished up in the middle of the green where he made par to mine and James's 5's. We then halved 15, James made a great 4 down the toughest hole on the course (16) to salvage a half against Murph's 5 (who was getting a shot) so we stood on the 17th one up with two to play.
I hit a nice drive straight down the middle, hit a solid 9 iron but pulled it slightly. Finished pin high but just off the green to the left. I was in two minds whether to chip or putt it but James and I eventually decided putting would be the better option. All I was looking to do was get it close to make a par and save the hole but as soon as I hit it, James said "that's good!". Don't know how long the actual putt was, but it was a tidy length. Rolled and rolled until it finally plopped in the hole for a birdie and the win!
It was really good to play with Murph and HTL again, haven't actually played with Murph since our trip down to Old Thorns almost a year ago. Great company, and as always a pleasure to play with James despite him playing like a knob and only helping me out on one hole... :D :D :D :D ;)

Well played to you both, being so close it must have been an enjoyable round. With Murph and HTL's reputations, according to what I've read on here, yourself and James must of gelled really well. Surely James contributed on more than one or two holes though :eek: :D

Nope :D It kinda went like this Chris...

I had a putt for par on the 1st but Smiffy already made his, had a putt for par on the second but Smiffy rolled in a birdie, had a putt for par on the 4th but Smiffy already made his... even had a birdie putt on the hardest hole which was to half with Murph but Smiffy already made his par (they both got shots there) :D

On the 10th Smiffy hit a stonewall 8-iron second shot to 6 feet and even though I hit mine closer than that Murph and HTL had picked up so it still had no value :D

Subsequently after spectating Smiffy for quite some time and getting bored of his relentless point scoring affliction I decided I was going to go AWOL and explore the course somewhat, knowing full well that I'd be there watching his back just in case..... :p hehe

When Smiffy snap-hooked his drive like a banana on the long, long, long 16th I saw my chance and made a solid two putt par :D :D

It was childsplay from there, I knew Smiffy could handle the intense pressure down the 17th and the left edge 35 footer that he sunk from off the green to win the match 2&1 was practically a gimme before he hit it :)

HTL and myself certainly took full advantage of the course, seeing plenty of it. Murph and Smiffy just got on with the task of making a match of it... both with good scores.

Oddly, even though Smiffy and myself won the matchplay I don't remember anyone handing me my winning £5 I'm adding interest by the day!!

I've been talked in to going out again on Sunday. Heavily wooded course, tight in places. An ability to shape the ball is required. Feck me....

I've not felt like playing all summer & haven't picked up a club in ages. just started to feel the urge again. pity I still can't afford to play.

Errr....

A) It was 4 feet James.

B) It was 55 feet James.

C) The matchplay was for "losers buy the drinks". The Stableford was for £5.00 of which I don't remember you paying me.

By the way....great play down 16 mate. Making a par down that one must feel like a birdie.
 
If you ever play against James and Smiffy, factor in another half hour into your round for group hugs and love ins, and also for pre shot conflabs/huddles that take ages. I think they bored me and HTL into submission. I could feel my essential life forces draining away by the minute.

Mind you, as a tactic, it worked.

And the bet was defo £5 on the card, and losers buy the drinks, but due to an attack of conscience, Smiffy bought the drinks. Which was fair. I certainly wasn't giving James any money. Not after that performance.

Smiffy was worth every penny, he played like a man posessed. Good on him... so much for all that '6 month break' crap - glad we can put that one to bed.

My woes continue. I practiced my putting on the living room carpet for an hour this morning and it was terrible.
Can you help me out James, 'cos I don't think I can face going out on the course again.... ;) ;)
