Went out and played with a few mates yesterday, I've been going through a bit of a slump recently which I have put down to suffering a bit from tennis elbow. Not getting through the ball properly for fear of jarring my arm etc.
But yesterday you'd have thought I'd never picked a bloody golf club up in my life!
I've lost count of the number of rounds I've played over the years where I haven't even had to hit a provisional, but yesterday??? I'd lost 3 balls by the time I'd stepped onto the 5th tee and had 2 points on my card! I proceeded to lose about another 3 or 4 balls during the round and finished on 20 points. Out of the 18 holes, there were just 2 that I played "properly" making a decent par and birdied the last. Scored 6 points from those two holes and managed another 14 points off the other 16 holes finishing on 20!!
I'm all over the place, and I just feel like jacking it all in for a few months. My set up is all wrong, mates pointed out to me yesterday that I was standing so closed at set up no wonder I was hitting big blocks or slices right. I tried to do something about it but just couldn't get my head around it. I came home aching like mad, felt like I'd played 54 holes, not 18. Promptly fell asleep on the settee, despite the wife trying to wake me up to go up to bed I was dead to the world. Finally woke up about 1.00am and made my way upstairs but could hardly walk!
Got up this morning and still ache all over. Somethings not right. Have pulled out of the game I had planned for the week-end and am seriously considering scrubbing my name from the monthly medal at Highwoods the following Sunday. The thought of going out and shooting 100 (or more) in a medal is not a nice one and I don't really want to inflict my crappola on to my playing partners.

Smiffy, sounds like you need a holiday somewhere hot - bit of swimming and relaxation to stretch out those muscles!

A break from the game for a few weeks, not months, sounds in order, there are other things in life - get down the woods and enjoy the autumn colours for example.

Thinking about the game too much maybe? - just switch off and hit it! Feet, hips, shoulders - get those 3 aligned together and you'll be back.

Stressed at work by chance?

Taking a rest from comps might be a good idea, however with the autumn/winter season coming up this is a good oppotunity to refresh your game with a lesson or two which will give you something positive to work on ready for next season

As you know lots of players go through slumps in their game which is sometimes so bad it's embarrasing (Been there done that)so your not alone. See it as an oppotunity not a threat.

Sounds like youre over golfed and mentally tired from it. A nice break for a while should freshen things up , good time of year to put the clubs away while the course is sorted out for the winter.

Free your mind and body from golf until you feel the buzz coming back and can attack the game fresh

Pull yourself together, man!! A few early nights, some stretching exercises, get down to the practice ground, and get ready for the next comp. The alternative, shopping with 'er indoors, doesn't bear thinking about.

Smiffy: Put the clubs away for the winter, its crap and cold and not ideal, ...I usually do and it hasnt ever done me any harm. Makes you look forward to spring all the more.

At the very least, lay off for a while, it will do you good.

Blimey...making excuses for Castle Stuart already.

:D

Just have a couple of weeks off to recharge the batteries, and see how you feel........and if that doesn't work, see if you can find a nice Thai masseuse.

;)

AT LAST! the bubble of scoring 36 points everytime you go out has burst.. Welcome to golf!!

Now pick yourself up from the egde of despair you big nancy boy... I still have you penciled in for Sunday.... I thought Murph and HTL were going to show us how to play this game :p

You big girl's blouse. Just think what it's like for golfers like me, and I suspect quite a few others on this forum, who regularly shoot scores like that.

Go and wipe your nose, have a lesson with your Pro, a couple of sessions on the range, and you will be back taking the money again.

:D :D :D :D :D

Nope, never been to Thailand, but their reputation is well known. I remember Tarrant getting caught out on a Capital radio outside broadcast. Spent all night chatting up this girl in a bar, and much to the amusement of the rest of the team, yep, it was a bloke.

Give it up for the winter, come the spring you will be really looking forward to getting back into the game.

I've been talked in to going out again on Sunday. Heavily wooded course, tight in places. An ability to shape the ball is required. Feck me....

There goes my stock of AD333's
