Favorite & least favorite formats

Happily play any format except..................

Texas Scramble, the most stupid golf game ever devised. Played in several but never, ever again.

Enjoy Matchplay most followed by medal.
Never played bogey golf so can't comment.
Don't like like scrambles...
.like 4BBB
Love any comp if it's a qualifier.

I prefer medal, dislike stableford.

I enjoy scratch matchplay but not handicap matchplay, the bigger the handicap difference the less I like it as it gets increasingly artificial.

Not a great fan of foursomes but have softened that opinion for scratch foursomes matchplay which I've come to really enjoy. Don't get to play it all that often though.

Matchplay is the best format followed by 4ball better ball

Not that keen at giving loafs of strokes as it can lead to a long round tramping in the rough + stuff looking for balls but hey ho normally the best player wins.

I love scratch foursomes because it usually means you are playing in a serious competition against good players. Also medal as I like the opportunity of trying to get a cut.

DISLIKE Randomly drawn 9-hole mixed greensomes with a bunch of 36 handicap Dorises. You bang it 250 down the middle, one of them duffs it 20 yards and then you get asked "whose ball shall we use?"

LIKE Scratch medal. Then you know who the best player is. None of this 18-handiapper lark thinking he's better than you because he shot a net 67. You might as well let the Mongolian athletes start 30 yards up the 100 meter course to give them more of a chance against Usain Bolt.

Scratch foursomes matchplay is great. Back in the day 25yrs ago when playing for the Filton 1st and 2nd teams (latter mainly) in the Avon and District league we played that format. Both off 6 me and my mate used to love taking on lower h/cap players - knowing that, by the very nature of the format, if we played well then we could win. A great challenge - and hugely satisfying when you win.

The 18-handicapper swanning about as if he is a better player than me just because his nett score is way better than mine is his problem - not mine. I just shrug and smile. I don't even bother making a point by asking what his gross was - well not unless he is REALLY irritating about it...

Dislike foursomes - only because I don't get out as much as I'd like so having to take alternative shots boils my urine. Save foursomes, I'm generally up for most formats.

Least favourite is mixed foursomes followed closely by Texas Scramble, foursomes, greensomes & bogey. Only formats worth playing are match play (love singles, especially three ball), medal & stableford. Three ball match play is great because, even if one match is getting away from you, you've still got a chance in the second one. I've played in one Texas Scramble in over 55 years & never again. Not keen on any format where I have to depend on someone else - result of being an only child, I believe.

Love two ball texas for fun and relaxing, as you get to take on shots that perhaps you would not normally take on. Also like betterball and stableford.

Don't like foursome or gruesomes.

Favourite - Mixed Singles match where loser of each hole has to remove an item of clothing and I'm drawn against a stunning blonde who can't putt. Or was that a dream I had?

Favourite - medal, to me it's the only way golf should be played - get a score on each hole, and try to keep it as low as possible.
Least favourite - foursomes - I never feel like I'm playing a full round of golf.
