Favorite beer

You should come over here and try some belgian or german beers.

Nothing is as complex as the belgian beer or as pure as the german beers...

Many's the time I have hit the deck following a session on the Leffes. Either Blonde or Brune.
And don't get me started on the Duvel....

Have you ever fancied entering the "drink 10 Duvels in an hour" competition????
Nobody has won it yet

AS a yorkie I should be saying Tetleys Bitter but not any more. We have a smaller independent brewery in Leeds called imaginatively The Leeds Brewery and it makes some really good beer. If I go into a pub and it's on then thats me for the day, either Leeds best bitter or their stunning pale ale. Fantastic.

A leffe blonde or brune is a brilliant idea after a round...

No, haven't had much of a chance or could stomach the idea of having 10 duvels in an hour...

There are a lot stronger belgian beers around, but you need to have an hour's time just to drink the one!!!

Another great idea for a very nice beer (particularly in the winter) is Kwak...

... Has anybody seen the glasses that you're supposed to drink it from?

Pauliner beers are good. In fact any Bavarian beer is awesome.

I'm also a huge fan of 90% of real ales.

Timmy Taylor's Landlord is probably my standout favourite, but if it's flat and warm, I'll usually enjoy it :D

Other than that, my favourite beers are the North American micro-brew beers like Alaskan Amber, Mac & Jacks, Longboard, Red Hook. You've probably never heard of them, but I would urge you to track them down if you can!

I was once sat with a load of beer drinking friends (who were alot older that I) in Manchester who used to drive out to try different Holts pubs. I asked them what their favourite beer was. Four out of five answered WILSONS without batting an eyelid. I was stunned at this as it was / is my favorite. This was a Stockport brew that got swallowed up by Courage (Scotish and Newcastle) so I loath and detest anything to do with them. For those who have never had the pleasure, I feel for you, as you never will. Walkers of Liverpool did an excellent beer as well. Their Mild was better than Guiness, again you will never have the joy of trying this either.
Currently I would have to go with Black Sheep. Although, the last landlord of my local served the best pint of Robinsons I have ever had. Sheer heaven. Shame the lastest lot can't get it right.

I would just like to point out that this thread is entitled 'Favorite Beer'.

Not 'Favorite tin flaoured fizzy pee water'.

I'll concede that some of the foreign beers that are to be drunk out of a bottle are fine and dandy.

But if you want belgian beer, go to Belgium.

This thread should be all about celebrating the best beers in the world. A pint of Great British Real Ale. There can be no one single best pint, because it is all down to the skills of the bar keep, or cellar master.

I'm a Sussex lad nowadays, and Harvey's do a great range. But finding a micro brewery, or going into a decent bar in another part of the country, and finding a local gem, is one of the great pleasures of beer drinking.

You can buy a Carlsburg in Aberdeen or York, and it'll taste the same.

Lager is the brew of the devil - if you can't handle Ale, switch to zoider. It'll have the right effect, and let you keep your credibility.

Guinness, no beer comes near! (at least the ad used to say)
Any time I am over in blighty, I try to sample something local but nothing stands out in my mind over the usual tetleys etc to be honest.
Frankly, no beer/ale/lager tastes "nice" its more the beer which you can put up with best!, same as folks who drink vodka, bacardi etc.

I don't (can't) drink anymore (and you wonder why I'm a miserable ba....) but when I did the best I've ever tasted was from a small brewery in Maldon, Mighty Oak, I had an Oscar Wilde (a mild, obviously) stout which was delicious, really fruity, other than that one of the locals here used to serve Devon Cream (I think that's what it was called, can't find it on t'web), which was very good as well.

But those days are behind me now and usually I'm so dehydrated after a round that it's a pint of orange juice and lemonade and then another one.

Currently I would have to go with Black Sheep. Although, the last landlord of my local served the best pint of Robinsons I have ever had. Sheer heaven. Shame the lastest lot can't get it right.

They've recently changed the way they brew Black Sheep though, the bastids! So it doesn't quite taste the same :(

Still a good brew though. One of my favourites.

I remember being in a pub just off the Grand Place in Brussels the night before the Scotland v Belgium World Cup qualifier and we had 3 pints of ale and we all felt a bit pished so as I went back for the 4th I asked the barman what strength we were drinking.....8.8% was the reply!!

I then asked him if we could tone it down a tad and he replies 'No problem I will give you the weakest we sell.....Stella!!!!' :D

Proper beer in Belgium!

>snip<

In your opinion. I find Guinness none too agreeable, and would put that into the vodka/bacardi category, whereas there are dozens of great lagers.

I think the wonderful thing about beer is the variety. I have favourites and tend towards the lighter hoppy bitters but all have their place, lagers too. I drink what I'm in the mood for at the time and love pubs which have a few different beers on tap. Such a difference to 30 years ago when keg seemed to be taking over everywhere.
