Notice Duncan Stewart is currently one shot inside the cut at the Nordea Masters after 11 holes of rd 2. I played a 36 hole open with him many moons ago, comes from my home town, and is the best player I've ever played with. Whilst I don't follow him I'm keen that he does well. Jumped out yesterday when radio scotland mentioned him on a sports report so I looked at the leaderboard and he was top 10 for while early on. Checked and he's ranked 1215 which demonstrates how good you need to be to get anywhere in the pro ranks these days. Family wise I have a Canadian 2nd cousin ranked 1584.
Anyway Stewart plods away on the Challenge Tour most of the time but will get to play 5 or so European Tour events this year and seems to be making a decent fist of it in Sweden this week and really hope he makes the weekend for a decent cheque. Now in his 30's you have to wonder will it ever happen for guys who've played that long but I guess they enjoy it, better than a 9 to 5 and all that. When do you say enough's enough I've got where I can and I ain't getting any further or do you keep thinking... one day?

Anyone know or have any connections to players in the world rankings?

Stephen Gallacher.

His dad, Jim, used to drink in the same pub as I did in Bathgate. Before he turned pro, Stephen would occasionally pop in for a beer, and we shared a few sherbets on occasion.

I know Richard Bland quite well, his brother used to be my foursomes and better ball partner for knockouts.

Just after he turned pro I marked his card when he set a new course record (-7), only course record I've heard of that included a double bogey and an air shot!

Played with Darren Clarke as a junior, played a round with Robert Garrigus in San Diego, Oli Fisher in a pro-am, had lunch, played a hole and later had some business dealings with Nick Faldo, chatted to Rory McIlroy in the clubhouse at Wentworth.

Come from Holywood, later worked with Gerry McIlroy for a few years and shared the same coach as Rory. Still cant believe he is better than me.... :p
Have never actually spoke with him face to face though seen him practice af our club plenty of times.

Played junior golf with Doug McClelland, our most successful member ever, who went on to win the 1973 Dutch Open & establish the biggest golf superstore in Europe at Silvermere. Recently reestablished the connection & playing in his charity golf day in October at Kingswood.

Greig Norman won his first European Tour event in 1977 over the Rosemount Course and Gary Player is an Honourary Member. Bradley Neil, the current Amateur Champion is a member as was Jessie Valentine.
