Well, after somereally indifferent putting displays recently, I decided to give my old Ping CU5 putter another run. I'd putted with it for years; knowing that bad putting rounds were down to me and not the putter.

Then I had a bit of putting meltdown and just couldn't line up a putt to save my life. So, out it went and a Yes Natalie came in. Worked quite well, easy to line up, was lovely on fast greens but not so hot on slower ones - much like Tiger, I guess!

On a whim, I decided to give the old CU5 a go for club stableford on Saturday.

Bingo.

It just felt so solid and right.

43 points later (including a blob!) and I'm in love once again with it.

It didn't behave perfectly. I had 3 three putts too but two of those were from huge distances and I was only a hair away each time. So, there's still scope for practice and improvement.

But it just goes to show that you don't always need the latest new kit to make a change, there's some lovely older stuff out there - probably gathering dust in your garages!

Very chuffed too as I've lopped 5 shots off my handicap this season. God knows how I'm going cope off 13 now though ;)

Congrats on moving from 18 to 13.

I'm struggling to get over 30 points off 18 atm, so seeing someone doing so well to improve is brilliant.

To me, the thought of only getting 13 shots would bring me out in a cold sweat.

I can only bow, and scrape, and doff my bald patch to you, oh mighty sire.

The thought of only getting 13 shots brings me out in a cold sweat too. I've suddenly got to make par at all sorts of holes that I struggle with. Nightmare. ;)

Still, the aim is to keep improving so just got to keep working at my game. Tons of short game practice, methinks.
