I'm very seriously considering buying some used Ping i15 irons and time wondering I'd there are any telling signs on the clubs showing they are fakes. I've already contacted a few who have provided serial numbers but even then do Ping use a specific combination of numbers and letters

I would ring PING and submit the serial numbers you have been given and ask them to verify them. I know that some fakers are taking existing numbers and reusing them on counterfeit clubs but it might be worth a quick ring just to check.

Thanks moonpig, what about colouring, grips etc. I'm guessing copies are getting better these days
 
It can be very easy to spot fakes. On the other hand it be very tricky too.
If you're buying them from a reputable 2nd hand dealer like UsedPing or Golfbidder then that takes away the majority of the risk.
Buy from eBay and you take your chances that if you're sold a fake you can get your money back.
