F1 2016

dont think that is what they had in mind when that version of quali was designed.
the old system did need a shake up but not what was dished up here this morning.
back to the drawing board Bernie ,

Well I'm SO glad I recorded qualifying so I wouldn't miss it. What an absolute joke!!

In the last 25+ years I've been watching F1, that's the first time ANYONE has ever had pole position sewn up with 4:31 left of the final qualifying session and only 2 cars on track.

Here's hoping that whoever came up with that bright idea gets 1,000 lashes and we go back to the previous format for the next race.

According to Sky they are reverting back to the old system for Bahrain.

Apparently it's all Bernie's idea to stop the fastest cars being on pole. What???

Of course the fastest cars should be at the front!!! For as long as I can remember, the only really close battles in F1 have been between team mates in identical cars when a team has 2 good drivers. Nothing wrong with that at all as a spectacle. If the fatest cars don't win you might as well just have a raffle every 2 weeks and save all the hassle of the cars and teams travelling round the world...

90s was not enough time, needed enough for a warm up lap and a hot lap which is about 3 minutes. Could only have run 1 long session to do that in reality. I thought this in advance and was proved right.

It was a a nice idea but flawed from the start, I would love to see a new format take over but it really should be trialled at GP2 level or something similar first before being rolled out in F1.

Anyone who works in change management should have spotted the process for the change was as bad as the change itself.

The interview with Horner and Wolf was excellent. Very straight talking from everyone. Apparently they had all said this situation would occur, so it wasn't a surprise to the paddock.

Pretty ridiculous to have the knockout as there isn't enough time to go back out if needed, so anybody near the knockout need to be planning almost 3 mins ahead to ensure they can get out and around to start a lap. Battle of the pit wall/analysts all over again!

A brilliant idea. Save our thread being cluttered up with crap

Thought it was going to be something different. Same old with a Mercedes 1-2 followed by Ferrari. Who'd have thought it :ooo::eek::eek: Can't see that changing in the race other than mechanical failure. Long gone are the days when a number of drivers had a chance per race.

It's been that way for the last 30 years, and going back to the Jackie Stewart days, as many drivers used to die as win a race back then so that's hardly the model we should be aiming for either...

Of course I'm not advocating that and it's a much safer era and to be honest don't really see the connection between more competitive and open racing with more than two teams fighting it out every year and in most races, and driver safety

Formula 1 has never been open with lots of teams fighting it out for the championship, it's always been about 1 or 2 dominant teams, normally 1, domiating for several seasons before a rule change gives another team the chance to take over.

Nothing new about that in that in the last 30 years or so.

Great race!!

Hammy paid the price for his poor start and Vettel paid the price for a poor tyre choice at the crucial point. Glad Alonso is fine, that was a very nasty shunt and kudos to Haas scoring points in their first race.

P.S. Wee note to Verstappen, if you want past your team mate, overtake him!! :)

A lot more action that in recent years - Haas did well and thankfully Hamilton not winning is always a good result

So which of his set of usual excuses is the whinny always-complaining-if-it-doesn't-go-his-way spoilt little brat Hamilton going to use this time?

None.... He was quite upbeat actually

There was something cringeworthy about the whole podium interviews - Rosberg asking the crowd if they enjoyed it like a pop star , just felt and seemed awful
