What do you think of the new way of deciding he world champ?

For those that aren't aware, rather than on points, it will be the driver with the most wins. If this was the case last year, Massa would have won.

Will teams have to take more risks to get the top spot at each race? Will it now mean that the last 10 laps aren't just a procession? Will it mean having not to protect the engines towards the end of a race?

I think it will change the stratergy and tactics alot. Hopefully for our viewing pleasure.

I don't know a lot about the sport, but I still think the idea of trying to work out who the best driver is when they are in completely different cars is an idea that is most definitely flawed. Some drivers will be starting the season with absolutely no chance of winning due to their equipment / vehicle.

A manufacturers championship I understand completely.

But in theory you could still have the champion only having won 2 races out of 16 or however many there are - unlikely I'll agree but possible.

It'll lead to more crashes (not sure if that's a good or bad thing!) as the need to win takes over from the need to score points.

The reason Massa didn't win last year is that although he won more races, he didn't finish or score points in most of the others. So it comes down to a choice - do you reward winning or consistency? The F1 Championship is a league. It's not a knockout cup in that you have to keep winning - its not always the team that wins the most that wins the league.....

The winner won't be decided on race wins untill 2010 I think, just because Hamilton is having a rubbish test period. I think the points system awards the more consistant driver.

Has this not been put off now until next season due to the failure to get a unanimous (sp?) decision by all the teams?
Or did I read it incorrectly?

Right, so they want to make the F1 season more exciting do they ???

Ok, heres what they should do:

Have the drivers change their own tyres using a snide scissor jack like the one I have in my Mondeo.

Make the track a figure 8 so they have to give way or take a chance.

Have buses stop in the middle of the track to pick up and drop off marshalls.

Have mini cabs and black cabs doing U turns to chase a £3 fare to take the marshall who was late back to the pits.

Have the old bill hiding behind the tyre wall trying to catch them speeding.

And to realy make it a spectacle have some pizza delivery boys on scooters looking for the fan who ordered a 16" four seasons special.

Good point & surely any competiton has to also be about consistency as well as amount of wins.

If someone has the ability to finish 2nd every race, yet win 1 race & yet another driver wins twice & comes no-where may run away with it, seems quite rediculous.

The idea about number of wins is a good one until the moment you actualy sit down & think about it.

Okay, so its highly improbably that someone who wins twice is going to be the winner of a championship. But we could pick any figure. 10 seconds, 4 wins, verses 9 crashes & 5 wins & so on. It possibly could mean more exitement, but this could also potentially mean more danger.

Perhaps they should have a two tier championship - One trophy for most points and one for most wins .

Oh , and has anyone seen the new cars ? There's a definite retro look about them . Very 80's in design.

Sounds good to me.

Up to around mid-season, you might get more racing between 'team-mates'. Thereafter there will be more driving to instruction and a lot of blocking, there may also be the odd 'accidental' shunt.

I don't think it makes a lot of difference to who will win, realistically there will still be no more than half-a-dozen in with a shout from day one.

For added entertainment, reduce the width of the tyres, no spoilers and no tyre changes unless punctured.

F1 is just a prosession, more overtaking in 1 lap of MotoGP or Superbikes than a whole F1 race.

all they have to do to improve F1 is make the points gap between 1st and 2nd larger, like it used to be and stop penalising drivers for having a go.
Last year was a farce if LH hadn't been penalised so much the season would have been finished well before Brazil

At this point, the cynics among us would suggest that it kept the viewing/attendance figures up.
;) ;)
it probably did, but they were so blazenly one sided with their decisions it stunk to high heaven.
it may have put some people off F1 for good?

I don't disagree. I know of at least two friends of mine who have stated, quite catagorically, that they will no longer watch F1.
It's a shame that the sport has got like this...it used to be a gentlemanly sport, a bit like golf, where drivers would help each other out.
Not nowadays...the big bucks talk.
I will still watch it, as I think it is a thrilling spectacle and the bravery of the drivers is without question. The only drivers braver than these are the knobs that go hurtling through forests etc.

I cant wait for the new season to kick off, hopefully the changes brought about by the KJB, i mean FIA, will make it more of a spectacle and less a procession.

I cant see what KERS is going to achieve though as a number of teams have already said that the added weight of the KERS kit doesnt warrant the extra BHP that it gives.

The cars are a bit uglier too, but as long as cars start taking over each other again it should be good fun.

As for the title, i think anyone of 5 teams could be in with a shout, McLaren (once they find their pace), Ferrari, BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso & Brawn GP, the latter's pace in the final test was astounding!!!

Anyway, roll on friday and c'mon Lewis!!!

McClaren have said that it could be 4 races before they are competitive.
Brawn are apparently flying at the moment, which can only be good for the sport.
For me after these, it is the usual suspects.

The sport is a bit sterile at the moment and there has to be some incentive for drivers to "race". point for fastest lap etc...

The quicker Moseley gets out and Ecclestone dies  the quicker the sport will move on.
