Had a go on one of those explanar things today, whats your views? bloody mavelous for me! gave me a totally different feeling in my swing,Slice was still there but it was definatly straighter plus a bit more distance plus it didnt balloon like it normally does?
Let us know who uses them, If you want my advice give them a go but thats just me?

I've used one a couple of times and it helps at the time but like all other lessons, the effect soon wears off, unfortunately! It definitely helps you get a feel for the correct plane though, which is what it's all about after all.

I think its good to give an idea of how the swing should be if your a beginner/improver. Cant express much more on that because i havent had a go but i understand the principle!

I have always wanted to try one of these. I worry about my take away to much and always feel as though I'm trying to "set" the club to get into the "correct" position.

I always thought that this device would help me but its so bloomin costly.

Any views on this are welcomed! (explanar, not my swing!)

I've seen them on the telly when the Golf Channel was on the go.
I wouldn't go to the expense of buying one, never checked out the price but assume they're not cheap.
I've seen one at my local range, never actually seen anyone using it with the pro.
I have to say it loks ideal for setting you on the correct plane.

It's a clever idea, and is well worth a try.
I've heard of folks not being able to hit the ball at all after being on it! But the theory is good, i.m.o.
Would give it a go, but it'll depend on the extra cost.....if it's normal lesson price, I might.

PS...I reckon someone could build a "home" one for not too much. Needn't be with the roller, just a circular ring for warm up.

Tried it with my pro. Helpful to give you some feeling of how the plane should be but I can't see it being something you would use much to help after 5-10 swings.

Haven’t actually had a go on an Explanor but this post is along the same lines.

Had a lesson last year and during it we had a discussioin on the merits of the Explanor. To basically cut a long story short he showed me an exercise he uses with students regularly which shows you how to set the club correctly. I’m not entirely convinced with this drill. However I thought I would share it with you nonetheless.

(WARNING - PLEASE DON’T TRY THIS WITH A SPANGLY NEW IRON IN YOUR HANDS AS YOU’RE LIKELY TO BUGGER THEM UP ON THE WALL)

Take your normal golf stance with your back to a wall ensuring that your backside touches the wall. With something like a PW in hand take your normal swing. If you hit the wall with the club on the backswing you’re apparently taking the club way too far on the inside. If you get to the top of your backswing without hitting the wall you’ve set yourself almost perfectly, apparently.

DHM.
