As the title says. Trouble was it was straight after my round this morning.

The 'club' (you can't actually hit any balls on this thing), weighs a ton! You can't just snap the take-away quickly which is good, if you did you'll bust your shoulder. You don't have to swing hard at all, the weight of the 'club' does it for you. What it does teach you is swing plane. It felt very alien to me, I have a constant tendency to take-away on the inside, so this device made it feel like I was taking away on the out side to me, very weird.

After a few minutes of this, my duff shoulder wouldn't take much more, I was handed a 6 iron and told to set up. When I was, the pro put this inflatable 'T' in behind me. If I hit it I was taking the club back on the inside line again.

After the Explanar the 6 iron felt light as a feather. The range balls were flying, and I wasn't trying to nail them. Carry was over 150, and a few were 170/180!! and much straighter, with a decent flight shape. I'd normally allow 140 inc roll out for a 6 iron on the course.

Okay, it hasn't solved all of my problems, the list is endless. Alignment, face angle (open / closed), timing, follow through and finish position. But it has given me a bit more confidence about my own abilities.

Would I buy one? At £600, no. That's a lot of lessons. Would I recommend that others should get a lesson on one? Yes, and not just the high h'cappers.

My shoulders feeling it now though, and I have more games on Mon at East Horton again, Weds at East Devon Golf Club, Thurs at Teignmouth and next Saturday at Leatherhead!!

Bummer being outta work. :D

Problem is it teaches a 1 swing plane and I have worked so hard on getting my two planes correct it would undo all the hard work.

I have heard good things about these and know some people really rate them, but me, i find it quite hard to get even remotely excited about them. Each to their own I suppose.

Glad it worked for you!

Thats the one thing that I found was at the top of the backswing and follow through it was really straining my shoulder muscles, this probably just showed though that I was using them before!

Good way of remembering the sensation was to close your eyes when inside the Explanar. Also just think that the angle of your club at address sets your swing plane.

Fair point. It's not for everyone. But I took the Pro at the clubs advice, as he thought it would be beneficial to me. It didn't cost me anything extra either.

I'll re-phrase my closing statement from the op.

I would recommend that you should speak to your Pro, to see if it would help your golf. Though he'll probably need to do a lesson with you to establish an answer.

Glad that's cleared up. ;)

Yes, sadly.....you and me would struggle with an explanar.

There's no shortage of folk on here who might find it suits them though!

I'd like a go on one, there's one at my range, but oddly, my pro is not letting me near it...even for fun....

They were so popular at the golf show In Birmingham even if I wanted a go I wouldn't have got near one so maybe that was a good thing.

There was however another quite simple but genious construction of childrens play tent poles, positioned in such a way that whilst stnding inside it, if you touched anything with your legs arms body or club, you were swinging incorrectly. Thegood thing was, you colud move and adjust most of the poles to suit you body posistion and swing plane.

I expect these will be quite common at local ranges in a few years as they are so cheap to make and effective at what they do.

If these Explanars were half the price they currently are I think they'd sell a lot more & a lot of golfers back gardens would have one of these sitting in them.

If I could have gotten one for £200 or £300, & be able to pick them up from my local golf shop, then I'd probably have one now.
