Experienced the good and bad sides of golf yesterday

Went for a quick 9 holes yesterday with a mate after school, got to the third hole having just sunk a lovely curling 25 footer to save par, we had caught up with a group in front who had just teed off so we waited, we'd already been on the tee box 5 minutes when a guy on his own turned up on the tee and as it was going to take a while asked if he could join us for a few holes, we obliged and chatted with this guy for the few holes we were together, really nice man who made me realize even more just how good this game is as it gives you the opportunity to meet people you never normally would socialize with. However we also experienced slow play at its worst. The slow 2 ball in front of us caught up with an even slower 2 ball and decided to form a 4 ball... this meant we were normally waiting nearly 10 minutes before we could take our tee shots! This continued for about 4 holes until they finally let us play through, unfortunately we then got to 3 guys who seemed to be concentrating on just about everything but playing golf, they kept driving over to each other, comparing scorecards, even just to have a chat, so by the time we'd finished our 9 holes it had taken 2 and a half hours! Really wasn't impressed with the lack of courtesy on display yesterday, and ruined what was otherwise a very enjoyable evenings golf.

I know how you feel. Its worse if you go out as a single and people dont offer to let you through even though you are waiting next to the tee as they are teeing off!. For every bad experience in golf though I tend to find there are at least 10 good ones.

Sadly you will always get this and slow play is everywhere. Good on you for inviting someone to join you and its a great way to get yourself known especially as you played so well
