Hi everyone, I was wondering what everyone's experinece is of purchasing golf products online.

I am in the market for buying some new clubs and have looked online but I am a bit apprehensious of shelling out over £200/£300 on a set which has not been measured. Anyone have an issue with this?

Also I have been looking around and theres so many golf shops to choose from, anyone have any good/bad experineces buying from the below online shops?

Thanks for any advice!

Go to your local American Golf and get your clubs, they offer a free fitting service, you can normally squeeze some good grips out of them too ;)

Hi there Ive worked in the golf Trade for 10+ years and would advise to goto a shop with a driving range on site so you can see the balls flight and shape for yourself as hitting it in a net isnt ideal. Also speak to your local Pro they are still competetive in there prices and also Ive found from being a PGA myself and also working in high street retail shops that If you have a good PGA pro you will receive a more personalised service from them as they really do value your business or should do more so than the high street retailers and sometimes its worth paying a little more to support your pro. Your pro may even allow you to take a demo club on the course as that's the best place to try the club as thats where its going to be used.

In regards to custom fitting it depends on the manufacturer £200-£300 is mid price range and some manufacturers dont offer custom fit service on that price range but speak to your pro and he will give you the best info and should watch you hit some balls and point you in the right direction to what clubs will suit you and also offer a good after sales service to make sure youve made the right decision and if they need altering anymore.

Hope that helps

Tough one mate. If the clubs are really really cheap compared to going into a shop it might be worth a look at. Only problem you will have is then getting them fitted to you. If you are close to the industry standard then any local pro can alter your lie angles to for them to you. If you are like me and have 1 inch extra on the shaft then forget it as it will get expensive getting them altered to you. A rough guideline for you on getting them fitted. My pro will do the lie angels for a few quid a club and give a discount on the full set. If you need them extending then it will shoot up in price. You will have to pay for the plug they put in the shaft to make them longer and also pay for a new set of grips. So just to give you a rough idea if you needed the lie angle and length altering you could be spending 15-20 a club with a premium grip. Just something for you to consider.

The 2 custon fits i have gone for have been from pros that work at driving ranges they have access to all the gear but are not trying to flog you anything in pitcular. So go get fitted and then buy it on line.
There will be a good chance that a off the shelf set will work for you, i am start lie and length but need a siff shaft.

generally im not an american golf fan, but this is due to the attitude of my local store more than anything else. Everytime i have visited this store with a exact purchase in mind they try to swing with brands that they make more margins on. since this set up a local range has been taken over by AG, so i will no doubt use them for future purchases as i know the staff better in there.

I've bought a few bits and bobs online and I've never had an issue. I've always made sure that the shop is legitimate and looked for a few reviews.

When I bought my irons I got them through my professional, who pricematched to the cheapest legitimate shop on the web.

Definitely worth asking for a price match. I have found your local will normally try and match if he can. I have had pro's price match footjoy shoes before. His attitude was he would prefer to make a tenner than make nothing at all.
