Bar the Majors (well the masters in particular) I am much starting to prefer watching the European tour..

I dont know if its the reasonable viewing times... or the lack of "get in the hole" being shouted

just enjoying it more atm

anyone else got a preference?

I enjoy both. Part of the attraction of the uspga is the picture perfect courses and weather when the weather here is not great. A bit like a travel show really.

I enjoy seeing the European golfers more than the endless line of Americans, partly because there is more variety and partly because I can relate more to Europeans having been to many of the countries where the players come from.

depends on the event

I want to watch the best players in the world

and 90% of weeks that is the PGA tour

I've enjoyed some of the recent European tour events more than usual, seems to have had a stronger field.
Generally I prefer the PGA tour tho.
Better courses & better players.

PGA Tour for me is dull as dishwater , the courses get set up for target golf most of the time , all you see is people putting , constant adverts , awful commentary

The ET has more courses that seem to test the players more, you see more than just putts

The last two comps have been great to watch

This is peak time for the European tour, the build up to the Open championship with the best fields Europe can provide. The Scottish Open has always drawn in some of the worlds best and I'm glad to see Dundonald looking great on TV

It is the quality of the TV coverage rather than the quality of the players and the courses that makes the difference.

I do think that on the American Tour they play a lot of courses with a lot of very similar holes course to course. Eg Finishing Hole with water all down one side and dog leg or continuous curve round it.

But sadly it will be back to business as usual after the Open for the ET.

Yeah see what you are saying and it's a bit dull when it goes over to Far East with no crowds etc

Yeah I find better tv coverage... and a better class of fan in the field.. less drunks for sure

Good to see poulter doing well today.. would like to see more of him on the ET.

Same with Rory tbh.. not like he needs the money! For the love of golf he could play anywhere he wants

Happy to watch golf on TV irrespective of tour and it's a testament to what Sky have done to make all the ET and PGA tours available (plus some senior and ladies golf for those that want it) and while I prefer the ET coverage to getting feeds direct from the host broadcaster in the US it's about being able to watch the best play throughout the year

I prefer the variety of golf on offer in Europe. Courses are usually different week in week out, weather conditions change more often than on the US Tour, and in general the shot making and course management that European Tour players exhibit is usually a lot more taxing than boom it and chop it close.

The crowds have been poor this week and Dundonald is a good course but not a great test of golf to be fair and its not a true links course.

But hey its another missed cut for Rorry even tho he got a dodgy rule on the first yesterday getting a free drop....not sure what that was all about. Anyway the PGA Tour for me its got the best players in it so it has to be the best

Certainly looks like there has been more people watching than any of the events on mainland Europe - expect the weather stopped a few yesterday but still looked pretty good.

Why isn't it a great test of golf? Scores seem to suggest it's not a walk in the park and what I have seen also suggest it's not the easiest. compared to the US PGA over there the leading score is 16 under a nice soft birdie fest again.

As for "true links" - well again certainly looks like it to me

And Rory got a drop after speaking to a ref - not sure why that would be dodgy and it's a shame one bad hole cost him a good round but certainly plenty signs of encouragement that he isn't far away from hitting form

I agree that the european tour tends to have more varied courses, albeit not supported as well by crowds which lessens the appeal for me.

But from a quick look, i don't see the pga tour as easier or yielding of more birdies. Just a little google shows that the last five european events have been won with a nett score of -74 all outright wins. The pga at a mere -56 under with two play offs. So there's 25% more birdies on the apparent tougher courses, by what most would agree are weaker fields usually?

I agree the commentary can be tiresome and the coverage not perfect with showing the majority of putts. But it doesn't stack up that its somehow a birdiefest in comparison imo

Take the 11th hole at Dundonald... 120yards to the pin, wind and rain. Really shows the players skill level. I've just heard Butch talking about Harrington controlling his ball flight, compared to those previously who struggle. Short of a couple of holes on the PGA, I don't really see it.
That said, I would watch any golf compared to the Love Island rubbish the missus is watching ATM!!
