I understood he would take up ET membership if the number of events dropped? I know he has played a few over the last few months, usually from the Irish open time onwards?

But the number is no different than before - still have to play the 5

BMW Masters last week was his only non Major/WGC event this year

Yeah I thought that there were more than 5 - but like you say, the rest are Majors & GWC. Looks like we'll be without him next Autumn then!

Been fine without for the last three RC - will be fine again without him

So some changes announced today for the ET

Players now have to only play 5 ET events to keep their membership but it doesn't include majors and WGC events

The head of ET no longer sees the PGA as the flagship event, because it doesn't have a big a prize fund as the US Pga event that same week so now the DP event which has a restricted entry is now the flagship event and it's not hosted in Europe. So the flagship event is determined by its prize money and will be missing a good percentage of its members.

The rationale for reducing the number to 5 and excluding the WGC's does sort of make sense as he's said for those that only just miss out on WGCs that would otherwise rely on them to make up the 13.

Haven't read the bit about the PGA not being the "flagship" tournament, that does seem a bit odd.

Only really effects the guys not in the top 50 but most of the ET members not in the top play regualry on the ET anyway getting 13 events in.

Seems it's a rule introduced to try and persuade more to play but when looking into it deeply doesn't actually change much for most of them

In here he talks about the flagship event

Agree it will only change for a couple of players, would have helped Poulter this year would it rather than have to go and play somewhere (Hong Kong?) at short notice?

Edit, cheers for the link

It makes sense. Bit strange about the PGA flagship event but I've faith the ET will do the best for its members so can't see it being all bad and if it makes RC qualification easier then that has to be better
