Wow that's a proper batting collapse...
Thats an England like batting collapse.Wow that's a proper batting collapse...
England rightly getting a lot of plaudits at test level for their recent results, expect they go on to complete the 3-0 win after todays performance. The good thing is they have 13 or 14 players capable at this level, and certainly more bowling options than for a long time (Several all rounders and a multitude of keepers), just need to find a top 3 and they'd have a world beating side!!!
Devils advocate question, just how important is the toss? Think thats 8 in a row Root has won and on pitches that deteriorate that has to be a decent advantage, just a question of how big. I guess if hes gonna lose a few West Indies might not be a bad place to do so!!!
So you are dropping our captain and best batsman?Think the balance is getting there , not sure about Jennings but hopefully he can use a semi decent tour to build on. The no 3 slot - Bairstow can play there and he should be for the next couple of tests , there isn’t many waiting in the wings
The middle order is pretty secure with Stokes, Buttler then Ali , Foakes has taken his chance and now will be the test keeper. The next four slots are were England could show a lot of strength- Two good spinners in the right conditions in Rashid and Leach then a number of good seamers with The Curran’s , C Overton and Woakes with Anderson and Broad close to a last series.
Then it’s about finding the quickie - J Overton is quick as is Porter and Stone
So overall the Test team going forward should be one of hope for the future

Root must be Englands best tosser, that must be 7 more than Nasser, the one being the time he one and chose to bat on a road in BrisbaneEngland rightly getting a lot of plaudits at test level for their recent results, expect they go on to complete the 3-0 win after todays performance. Other this that is bothering me is the that no balls are no longer called by the Umps. when i was watching on Friday morning, though i saw the Sri Lankan bowlers have a few, and none called and only checked when a wicket falls. batting teams are now missing out on the penalty runs, which judging by this mornings effort, could have been another 10 runs, minimum
I think you're right. Let them concentrate on the actual delivery and any LBW or edges. Surely with technology today a no ball can be monitored remotely and a signal sent to the umpireDoes it even needed another umpire to view it? Could it not be set up to automatically call a no ball using tech similar to Hawkeye?
Very difficult to call no balls when umpires could be a metre or two back from the stumps. Let them concentrate on the other end, not the bowlers foot.
Richie B ?Superb series result that!
Do they have pace bowlers any more? They haven't had any real quicks for a decade or more but perhaps they have someone coming through now? Still, they are quicker than spinners so he may still be in trouble.Well that was closer than i thought after having them 54-4 at stumps on day 3. Sri Lanka will be kicking themselves.
Looking forward to the Windies series in Jan now, maybe sort out the opening slots and no3, though i can't help feeling Jennings just doesn't cut it and will struggle against Windies pace bowlers

That is a good point about the pitches. I remember hearing that the last time we toured there. That makes no sense. Why would they alter their pitches that way?shannon gabriel, kemar roach, maybe jason holder I expect the mainstays, shermon lewis supposed to be quite quick if he plays, bigger issue in the West Indies is none of the tracks have any pace in them these days, conditions get more and more like the sub continent
