Yes I would agree.

In discussing this it would be unfair to Knott if his ability as a keeper was questioned.

To me he was definitely a keeper first and a batsman second.
To be fair, Knott did get five test centuries so definitely no slouch with the bat but was always seen as a keeper. Bob Taylor who has come up in this conversation never got a test century (highest score 97 I believe) but again a lower order batsman that could get runs (did make several fifties) but viewed by the selectors as a specialist glove man. I'm in agreement with several others and think we look far more balanced with a specialist keeper behind the stumps and feel happier that less chances will be missed. Thinks his worth with the gloves will be seen on the turning Sri Lankan wickets

This is great stuff.... got me googling....

Taylor came in at number 8 when he made 97 at the Gabba in 78/9 Ashes.. (I was 14 :) ) I am sure he usually came in at 10! A faint edge and walked , and we'll never know if the finger would have gone up!

I'd also completely forgotten that he got the Test Break cos Knotty had gone to play in Kerry Packer's World Series!

In a strong position now. Not that I want to jinx him but Jennings has looked good in this match. People (including me) have been critical of him on here but credit where its due. He's looked good. Interesting how him and Burns have got the runs and both have score at 40/50 runs per hundred balls. Proper test match batting.

Fair play Keaton Jennings. Looked dreadful over the summer and completely lacking in confidence, selectors have shown faith in him and he's delivered big time here. Fair play to the lad.

Nice average booster for Keaton, now up to 29.47.

Should be a pretty convincing win from here, let the spinners loose tomorrow and win the Test in 4 days.

Excellent day for England but Jennings should have been given the chance for the 150. The Sri Lankan openers did well to survive but England should wrap this up comfortably. Been a very strong performance to date

Apparently Simon Hughes is already suggesting that Rory Burns should be dropped.

Certain individuals in the media really are clueless and little more than look at me charlatans.

i'd just like to switch the TV on and not see England 100 for 5.

Jennings Fails again to a med pace, personally unless he gets another 100 in this series i would get rid a try someone else in the Windies. He can obv play spin well, but what the point in an opening bat that can't play pace?????

England's top 6 really is poor. The whole business with shoving Stokes up to 3 is a farce. Root needs to take responsibility and bat there himself. Mind you, he's not exactly scoring runs himself.

The point about Jennings is a good one. But then the question is who opens instead of him?

Today's play has seen some of the aspects of test cricket that make it great: England with a proper keeper, Jack Leach getting wickets and then opening the batting and 5 penalty runs against Sri Lanka.

Marvellous!

Did the ball hit a helmet?

A proper test match, good stuff from Sri Lanka today.

I didnt see the incident but i think it was something along the lines of the Sri Lankan batsman failed to ground his bat after hitting a 4 so they were penalised 5 runs. Not sure of the rules on the matter but i love a good cricket anomaly!
