To be fair, Knott did get five test centuries so definitely no slouch with the bat but was always seen as a keeper. Bob Taylor who has come up in this conversation never got a test century (highest score 97 I believe) but again a lower order batsman that could get runs (did make several fifties) but viewed by the selectors as a specialist glove man. I'm in agreement with several others and think we look far more balanced with a specialist keeper behind the stumps and feel happier that less chances will be missed. Thinks his worth with the gloves will be seen on the turning Sri Lankan wicketsYes I would agree.
In discussing this it would be unfair to Knott if his ability as a keeper was questioned.
To me he was definitely a keeper first and a batsman second.
