Stupid poxy game. I can make myself look foolish without it helping. Ever since I whined on here about feeling I'm not getting any return in terms of scoring and results for the time and effort I put in and thinking about jacking it in for a while I've had a PB and most subsequent rounds have been threatening something special.

Played a club match today (4bbb) vs Oxford City (at home). Covered the first four in -1 gross to be 4 up after 4. Had a couple of bad holes but then played the 10th-17th in + 2 gross before finishing with a triple bogey 8 at the last. I ended up with 36 points and only scored on 15 holes. There was only one conceded putt in that too so everything else was holed out. I just need to stop the silly mistakes and a real low one is in there.

I think I'm going to threaten to quit more often. Hit it great at Camberley and PM at Blackmoor (we'll say nothing about the morning round) with Smiffy and his mates. Very happy but it's about finally getting it to click in a comp. Bring on the stableford tomorrow.

Go on then Bob. Apart from suggesting a new sport what do you suggest. Actually I think a lot of it now is between the ears. Played very well yesterday and even though it was matchplay began to almost relax too much and not concentrate over the shot and started making mistakes.

Played the stableford today. Ended up with 35 points but only had 14 going out. Made a bad drive on 5 and got greedy trying to get out of rough. Duffed chip on the next. Missed a green from 70 yards with a sand wedge in my hand on 7 and then duffed the bunker shot. Missed a two footer for par on the 8th. All one point holes except 7 where I didn't bother the scorers. Came back in 21 points without doing anything different. The swing didn't feel as good as yesterday but I got it round. Was lying third when I left but if I could have converted any two of those shots I'd have been leading.

Where I was too relaxed yesterday I was probably trying too hard today. Where do you find a balance point between being too intense and not concentrating enough. I'd got it pretty much spot on at Blackmoor and was focussed over each shot and then relaxed in between but can't seem to do it on a regular basis.

Go on then Bob. Do your magic

Sorry to butt in, but there you have it Martin. You just need to concentrate over the shot for a twenty seconds, and then turn off until your next shot. I am sure playing with Smiffy helped, as I know when I play with him we talk everything but golf in between shots. ;)

You are probably right but I was in the same boat yesterday and today. Great partners and good banter in the group between shots. However concentration drifted yesterday after we went 4 up after 4 (I was -1 gross) and seemed to not really be there at all on the front nine today. As I say the swing didn't feel smooth all day and I felt I was fighting it even on the back nine but played the first four in level 2's which is always acceptable then had a bad hole at 5 and kept chucking silly shots away until I parred 9. Even on 10 I hit the fairway and then semi-shanked it 20 yards right of the green with just an 8 iron in hand. Has to be something to do with competitions although there was no level of expectation there (assume 0.1 back first and work from there  ;))

Well I came 7th in my division. 38 won compared to my 35 but even one more point would have got me a few quids worth of vouchers. Doh. It's all these unforced errors in my game I'm struggling with. If I was hooking, slicing and playing like the king of the knobs (a bit like my morning round at Blackmoor) then I could understand it. When you are hitting reasonably and then making basic errors and not really thinking about anything its annoying. Just seen this though so will be giving it a go
