Was playing in 4 Ball Match Play yesterday. Our opponent who has a habit of Club throwing, he is a 'Jock' by the way shanked his bal whilst just short of the green.

The ball finished in the bunker followed by his club.
Is this classed as testing the surface as it was intentional to throwthe club but not in the bunker. Should he have lost the hole in Match Play/2 shot penalty stroke play?

what's the fact that he's a 'jock' got to do with it?

I agree though, wouldn't play with him again.... it's precisely the reason i don't play golf with one of my brothers any more. he's a moody grumpy huffy girl of a man who has no place on a golf course.

I really dont enjoy playing with players that throw a wobbly it can effect my game as well as there own,if i have a bad hole i can generally forget and move on quite quickly. As has been said already tell him to find someone else to play with or change.

It always amazes me how many folk get themselves upset by a bit of club abuse....I saw it twice this morning by a certain low handicap fellow forummer and thought it was great,we all had a wee chuckle about it,the head was off but 30 seconds later he is back to his normal self.I personally have never had a problem with showing a bit of passion for your game.

A bit of exuberance never hurt anyone, pushes you on to better things :D ;)

How do you know it's not his normal self escaping after being shackled by a mild mannered imposter :D

Dodger, I agree that some emotion is a good thing but I would only accept that from a mate who I knew and could get ripped into but playing with a stranger who throws a hissy fit would put me off venturing out with him again.

Accept entirely what you are saying BUT Is there a penalty?

No. He wasn't holding the club while it touched the sand.

Not disagreeing that it is not a penalty but if he is not holding the club how is he going to pick the club up without making contact with the sand.

Picking a club up off the sand would not be classed as testing the surface, as you would a rake for example.

Without looking it up, is there a time when you can touch the sand with a club while holding it and there is no penalty? The ball is still in the same bunker.

My old buddy HTL has got a bit frustrated in the last few weeks, partly thorugh hitting bad shots and mainly carrying me in pairs events and matches. I tried to reign him in the first time but I let him get on with it. He tends to blow and then get back on track and focus on nicking the money. I was a real one for swearing and throwing my club as a teenager but hurling a five iron and watching it wrap around a silver birch and snap the shaft put me on the road to recovery. I still get annoyed and frustrated but ry to keep it in check a lot more and realise that its no fun for my partners if I'm sulky and petulant especially in a comp. Maybe, just maybe I'm finally growing up

I'm begining to think Screwback and Dodger are two of the same. :o ;)

I would rather play with a guy who threw a wobbly and then cheered up, than someone who sulked the whole way round.

Bung a club (heck, snap it if you want), then cheer up.
