My Flymo is giving up the ghost and I need to replace it. Medium sized garden so I'm going for an electric one again. I fancy a wheeled one rather than hover but would like some recommendations. .

Looking to spend up to £80. Brands available seem to be Flymo, Spear & Jackson, Bosch, Makita.

Thoughts please, including if I'm wrong to go for wheels rather than hover.

I've used a Qualcast 400W cylinder mower for years and if you are sad like me and go for stripes on the lawn this does it well. Currently on offer at Homebase for £64 although it looks like its only available in store or click and collect.

I recently bought a Wolf mower from a company called the Green Reaper. I bought online and it was dearer than your budget but by far and away the best built electric mower I've owned - and it's a funky red and yellow colour, with a power cable that's long and could connect to the national grid safely 😁

Bosch Rotak 32 is what you want.
I am extremely OCD about my lawn and on average mow it 3 times a week!

However, make sure that you get the model with the black front - the all green ones are made in China and are not a good / durable.

I previously had a flymo hover mower and would never get another one.

EDIT: I'm struggling to find any non-China made ones online.
Also, there are a couple of frustrations....
1. The power cord is quite short compared to others (eg Flymo)
2. The grass collection basket is not the biggest

The black fronted ones are about £200 minimum, the green ones £85. That partly shows the difference in quality of parts and labour costs. Bit dispiriting really. Sad to say, can't justify £200 version.

I had a bosch Rotak, it was the danglys. Eventually it fell to bits but owed me nowt. Thought sod it am having a Bosch cordless. It's bloody Rammel.
Gutted coz I went into a British Red Cross shop in Cambridge and there was a fair few retakes in for £25 that looked in excellent Nick.

If you want the best finish get a cylinder blade rather than a rotary.
And if your lawn that has edges that are above the flower bed soil, make sure there is a roller at the front.

Bosch Rotak ............................... all day long.
I have two of them, one for home & one for work and they have so far been faultless.
One is many years old & still going strong.

Whatever you opt for do abit of research. The modern mowers do not appear to have the reliability of the ones from 10-20 years ago.
If you want to save a bit worth looking on ebay for factory repaired ones with warranty or oulet clearances.

I have used a wheeled rotary for years as it makes the job so much easier but my lawn is very much just a green space rather than something to be swooned over. My lawn often gets around the 4-6" high level and my ancient flymo copes quite adequately.

No point in asking for advice and then ignoring it. I've gone for a Bosch rotak 34. Too many people recommending it not to go for that one. It has been £85 since the thread started but it dropped to £75 on Amazon this morning so I pressed the button.

Thanks all 👍

Bosch Rotak 32 here too.

Been going strong for 6 years and it's been great. Mine is the "cheap" green one, didn't even know you could get other ones and I'd buy another.
