Had our honeymoon in Egypt, but it was 30 years ago when it was much safer. Three days in Cairo, and 11 days on Nile cruise. Stunning place, but not sure I would do the same trip now.

Gave the builders some of my expert advice.Must have been amazing to see the pyramids actually being built !

I climbed up to the centre chamber of the Great Pyramid at Giza. Not recommended if you suffer from claustrophobia.![]()
So here's the bottom line - if you thought you might have just two years to live would you go - to see the pyramids, Luxor etc. Yes - there are plenty of other places to go - but with that constraint would Egypt be worth the risk?
#2 option currently Jordan
I can't answer for anyone else but personally I wouldn't set foot in either of those places, even in those circumstances.
There are so many amazing places to visit on this wee ball of gas, rock and ice we call home. I would be going somewhere else...
Indeed - but there is some danger and some risk in many places - I'm just wondering whether the sights and experiences of Egypt are a must do or in fact just a nice to do .
Go to Peru and Mexico and see the equivalent Aztec structures

I went to Sharm el sheikh in 2014. Stayed in a hotel opposite the old market. The hotel itself was amazing, weather was fantastic, but I would never go back. Popped out for 10 minutes to the old market and have never been harassed so much in my life. Much prefer Turkey
Hassle I can do without. Mind you Marrakesh is a bit of 'fun' on that front and we survived that.

Mrs Hogan fancies 7 - maybe 10 - days in Egypt in April/May
Stays in Cairo and Luxor seem essential - but any thoughts on other locations to stay?
And any thoughts on whether a few days Nile cruise should be in our plans. We are not 'cruise' people - though a 4 day Nile cruise does not really seem quite the same as two weeks on a huge cruise liner (the latter holding no attractions to us at all)
No I wouldn't, go to the Pyramids. I would seriously go to ankar Wat Cambodia. Again. Take a step back and check it out 👍
Yes I know I can - and indeed we are planning to do that as part of a three month tour of south and central america. But the sights and experiences of Egypt...
As I studied architecture I have a great interest in ancient Egypt from that perspective - my wife would have more of a tourist interest. I am hearing a 'don't bother - despite how fabulous Luxor is' . I take that on board - disappointing as it is.
So off to Jordan then instead...![]()
