One of you guys who are good at understanding club fitting may be able to help answer this for me.

Is the correct lie of the club calculated in relation to shaft length?

Suppose an individual was fit for set of irons and we'll take the spec of two irons (6 & 7)

6 iron- length 37.75" loft 30 lie 60
7 iron- length 37.25" loft 34 lie 61

He then goes and buys a set of irons from a different manufacturer which are built as follows-

6 iron- length 37.5" loft 31 lie 62.5
7 iron- length 37" loft 35 lie 63

To get the second set suitable would it be enough to change the lie to the figures in the first set or would the .25" less length also have an impact on correct lie
Would the golfer also need to get length added to the shafts or is .25" difference not noticeable enough to worry about

Is the correct lie of the club calculated in relation to shaft

And where you grip it, your stance and swing plane etc etc

It's also dynamic so swing weight, head weight and shaft flex all matter.

So it's probably easiest to say that even if two clubs were the same shaft length and lie angle even they might not be the same with the same static lie angle.......

It all depends - different heads are balanced differently, even though the weight is 'standard', so that will also affect required lie angle.

Proper way is to check loft before/after purchase then dynamically adjust Lie, after purchase, using Lie Board.

.25 might be noticeable to some, but probably not me. I can tell once over .5 though. I've got used to the .5 longer shafts that soft-stepping caused.

I've been reading too much about irons, lies, lofts over past few days :)

The first specs are ones I was fit for couple years ago, seem to have worked well

Was thinking of perhaps changing irons so trying to figure out what to look for. Seems my set are longer than average length even though I'm 5-9" in height
I was hoping to buy second hand but difficult to find matching specs. Could get fit again but most fitters will be looking towards new clubs

Like the look of the AP2's and was thinking could pick up a set of second hand 712's cheaper now the 714's are out
