Im going up to Scotland on business next week for a few days and have an afternoon free.

Last time this happened I played Gullane No 2 for £80 which was great.

Can anybody recommend any other great options for around the same money in the area ?

I've done this a couple of times and ended up staying and playing at Dalmahoy.

Would much rather have headed out to the coast and played some links, but the logistics of being close to the airport, bypass and city meant Dalmahoy was a winner.

Eyemouth is further down the coast but not too far.

Braid Hills in Edinburgh comes into the hidden gem category. Smashing course.

Swanston is okay and handily placed
Eyemouth is an hour from the centre of Edinburgh.
As well as Kilspindie, Gullane 3 is a great course. Not long but plenty character.
If you want a longer challenge, Craigielaw.
Mortonhall is a nice condition parkland course in Edinburgh.

I always enjoy playing Bathgate GC home of 2 Ryder cup captains.
There's also Ratho Park, Harburn, West Linton, Greenburn, Shotts and a few others all within 25 mins of Edinburgh and very reasonably priced.
All parkland courses and will be in great nick this time of the year.

I was stretching it, but he played Gullane previously so I thought I'd throw it in as an option.

When I lived in Edinburgh Gullane 2 was my absolute favourite course at any reasonable price, so I'm not sure how the others compare.

Personally I agree that Braids is superb value with great views over Edinburgh but it's not really the same quality of course as Gullane.

The other course that is sometimes mentioned here which I really enjoyed is West Linton, a lovely wee course to the South of Edinburgh.

Last time I played swanston it was blowing a gale... Had an old pull trolley at the time.. Most holes are on a slope from the pentland hills and the bag and trolley got blown over, end over end a few times.. Not my fave track...

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but what's your opinions on Liberton GC ?, seemingly it's only 4 miles south of Edinburgh.
We are thinking of entering their seniors Greensome open.
