Hi all....

Taking my folkes to Edinburgh for my dad's 70th. Staying right in the centre and am after any advice for decent eateries for either lunch or dinner... Nothing Michelin star required, just decent food....

Cheers
Karl

If they are into seafood, then 'Fishers in the City' in Thistle St is the standout place in my book. Also does great Steaks and (Sunday) Roasts!

'Open' kitchen and great wine list. Simple approach to cooking - Rick Stein style - with specials planned from what local market can provide. Halibut or Mahi-Mahi particularly recommended!

Get yourself to one of Tom Kitchin’s gaffs 👌🏻

There's an Italian just across the road and a few yards down from the Edinburgh Playhouse which I've eaten at a few times. There also The Conan Doyle pub/eatery across the way from it and a bit back up the hill - its very busy with theatre goers eating but empties as the show starts. Ecco Vino next to the Malt Shovel on Cockburn Street, just off the Royal Mile. There's also another Italian about 100yds up the road from it.

THB, you've got loads to choose from...

I'll go plus 1 on this suggestion (can't remember its name but I'm sure we're talking about the same place) and a good wine list too

Moma Roma’s is the one you’re thinking of I think.

Some good suggestions so far only thing I would aviod is the eateries in the Omni Centre.

We always go to Petit Paris in the Grass Market, always get well looked after and the food is always good, and its reasonably priced.

There are a few nice seafood places down in Leith, but on the expensive side

Agree that Petit Paris is good , we had a fish supper from the fishmarket in Leith yesterday for £7.50 good value, Loch Fyne in the same area is very good but more expensive.

Mother India's Cafe on Infirmary Street is good.
Teuchters on William Street is also good fare.

Howies, Waterloo Place - continuation of Princes St does the most fantastic value lunch. Food is superb too.

Cafe Andaluz on George St is a very nice tapas restaurant.

Their sister Cadiz next door is also said to be excellent although I haven't been yet.
My grand daughters husband is a head chef in Howies, but sadly I've not had a chance to try it yet.

Guillianos, its excellent.

Wouldn't give the Witchery my money, far better options. Angels with Bagpipes on Royal Mile, The Ivy on St Andrews Square, The Brasserie at The Balmoral is excllent and reasonable.
