The 6th ,that makes more sense, I still wouldn't be brave enough to have a bash at that hole either. 6th is a good hole.

I have heard it was better before the tree's although I am not convinced. I love tree lined course and wouldn't change much about East Ren tbh.

I'll keep my eye out for the East Ren open this year

I can understand why you like it tree-lined - but the conversation that I had with the member was that the trees - now 25-30yrs old - are causing issues for the greens - light and drainage. And due to their age Nature Conservancy issues prevent the club from removing them - or at least that's what the member said.

One of these things about golf courses - they change and are changed over time. New members of ER won't be able to imagine the course as it was designed by Braid and tree-less; the trees being an 'artificial enhancement' - and they have very significantly changed the look and feel of the course. Not exaggerating to say that apart from a few clumps the course was tree-less - being situated on the edge of the very wild and very windy Fenwick Moor.

So looking at both of my pictures - apart from the distant stand of deciduous trees in the background of the second picture - ALL of the trees were planted when I was a member.

 The cold wind you mentioned was very evident on Sunday morning across the road!

Really liking the look of these pictures. When visiting the relatives I was always drawn to the links courses in Ayrshire but as I've now played them all many times I think I should be looking inland next time :)

I like this taken at the top of course - shows you where the course sits relative to the moors. And the South West wind comes whistling over the top and can hit you hard (the wind farm is a clue to the wind :) )

still a country member at east ren myself, though rarely get the chance to play it these days.

that par 3 11th is certainly a toughie. tbh i'd probably take a 4 there every day and be thankful. only hole i don't really like much is the 12th which is a blind uphill toil as far as i can recall.

Dave we will need to get a game soon now the weathers getting better!!!

I love the course; amazing in the summer just a pain that a few months of the year you ain't getting out much due to the location frosts over quite easily!!!

I HATE the 11th Hole with a passion.... My old man signed up our company to sponsor it too and I'm always giving him it tight about sponsoring such a sh!t hole... I guess people always remember it. Got a 6 on it tonight!!!

The 11th hole is a pain, but have birdied it already this year. It's all dependant on I'm hitting driver that day. If I'm hitting it well i.e. high and long, then I'll go straight at the pin knowing that if it cuts a bit or I get a bad strike, I'll be far enough up the hill on the right side to punch a little 56 chip on to the green (did that the other day and walked off with par). If I'm struggling, it means a left to right ball-flight. Then, it's a case of aiming to the left hand bunker, knowing that the chances are it will be short on the fairway. Pitch and two putt for a good bogey.
