Anyone from the Edinburgh area know when the East Lothian driving range on the A1 at Tranent Opens, currently closed but no info on when it will re-open.

Seems daft to me that they shut in the winter as that's when they would get lots of evening business isn't it?

Quite keen to start hitting some balls after what is now nearly a 6 months lay-off as physio says it's ok.

I think there is a wee range at Whitekirk and maybe a small one at Castle Park but they're not too handy for me.

For what is a golfing heartland I thought the area would be awash with golf ranges but apparently not. :(

Stu, that range is closed more often than its open. I would recommend King's Acre where J_F plays which is only 10 minutes from the Tranent range. Their range has multiple targets and disctance markers.

Cheers Andy, I'm working at Haddington now and I could've squeezed in a quick 50 at lunchtime (if it was ever open).

There's a range at Melville Golf Centre, Lasswade, is that the place you mean?

Are Broomieknowe, Melville Golf Centre and Kings Acre 3 different clubs using the same course?

Where you working birdieman? I lived in Haddington for 20 odd years, down by the sports centre. Moved down to north west about 6 years ago now, don't go back so often these days either.

Besides Kings Acre there is the Melville driving range and there's also Port Royal range near the airport. I'm sure there is more. The one at Tranent opens at the start of march....I think.

I work in Haddington. :D

I have now located Kings Acre on google maps, bit far ideally but may investigate on a weekend.

Well thanks for the replies. Ventured over to the Kings Acre range this evening, quite an impressive set up. Only hit 50 balls as I wanted to test my shoulder a bit having not swung a club in a long time. Felt like a total beginner again but it was great to swing a club if somewhat feebly. A good range facility but just trying to swing a club for now.
Have never hit my irons or PX shafts before today so that was fun too. Got on ok but my golfing muscles are non-existent, it's a longish road back to full mobility in the shoulder.
Had a physio session earlier including acupuncture (anyone tried that?) for the first time at the FASIC Sports Injury Clinic. Certainly helped loosen knotted muscles a bit, very impressed with the knowledge and application of the physios there. Crikey they don't have work the stretches though, arrrgghh :p

Nearly a golfer again, may hit the range tomorrow again. :)

Get yourself a Digicard for £25 for 10 buckets, Stu. It's the best range in the area by far.

;) ;)

And when you're back to full mobility and fancy a game, give me a shout.

Cheers John
I did go back this evening, hit 100 this time over an hour or so, night and day from yesterday, hit a lot of decent shots and shoulder held up really well.
Bit short on distance but a happy camper overall.

Why is that drive into the club soooo long though? I've got poor headlights on my motor which doesn't help. I followed the signs from the bypass but it looks like you could get in from the first roundabout on the A7 - can you?

Just wait 'til a deer jumps out and crosses the road in front of you. Always seems to happen when you least expect it :D

Unfortunately only one way in and out Birdieman.
