Hi,

I live in Italy but start of September I am flying to London Luton then going to Bedford to pick up a car for the winter

Whilst I am back in Blighty, i would be pretty keen to find a golf range in this area, or even a 9 holer.

Anyone in the area wants to give me advice or even meet up when over..

So, is there a decent range in that area?

I am of course going to be driving to Dover, would like to have a go at a TOP Golf if there is one in the area

Am struggling to think of a conventional range as such in Bedford, several of the clubs there have practise areas but cant think of any with a specific range.

Assuming you're gonna head up the A6 from Luton to Bedford then only a small detour to Beadlow Manor which has a range (albeit cant comment on its standard, also has 2 courses, which are a bit run down)

Alternatively going via Milton Keynes there is a range at Abbey Hill.

Let us know the dates and will see if Im about for a hit, theres a few others in the area who may be about too

As for top golf, closest is probably Watford, but if youre heading back round the M25 to Dover then you're not going far from the one at Chigwell

Stockwood park in Luton used to have a driving range and the top golf in Watford was only about a mile from the M1.

but its been 10 years since i was last there so could have changed

Just had a look, looks ideal as they have a we 9 holer too (I am more than a little rusty)

I will update the thread when I have my incoming flight booked..

Bedford golf club has full range, flood lit. 2 miles west of Bedford on A428.

you mean the Bedfordshire? (forgot they had a range!) the range at the Bedford (if you could call it that) was only any good for mid irons upwards (or has it changed?)

This could be an issue.
I have contacted them already via their online form.

I want a good length range (300 yards at least)
Not really a golf range if you cannot swing the big dog

Hi, I'm a member at The Bedfordshire and we do have a full range there (no restrictions on clubs you can hit). It's recently had a bit of money spent on it so all relatively new balls, mats etc.

There's also the 9 hole academy course which I'm told is very good (though to my shame I've not played it yet).

Unfortunately there's 2 clubs fairly close together with similar names just to confuse matters. Ours is Bedfordshire (located at Stagsden) with the other being Bedford golf club (located at Great Denham).

Hmmm just noticed your signature re the long drive. You'd be best having a chat with the pro about length of the range - I'd guess at about 275 yards long so fine for most but if you're a big hitter it might not be quite long enough for you. Not sure where would be at that length tbh.

There is a range at Wyboston Lakes near St Neots at the end of the Bedford bypass.

i went to stockwood park driving range about 6 months ago and they had restricted it to irons only due to someone hitting a girl on a horse in the stable next door.
The 9 hole course at stockwood is only a pitch and putt.

Redbourn (just south of Luton) have a decent driving range and pitching and putting greens. The 9 hole "kinsbourne" course at redbourn is a matured par 3 course that has been there 40 years and holes range from 100 yards to 215 yards.
