Eagles! (Rolling Thread)

I once had 2 in the same round.. The first on a Par 5 and the 2nd on a driveable Par 4.. Still didn't make buffer.. Strange round..

I had my second this year, Merrists par 5 6th. Pushed my tee shot into the right rough, not too bad of a lie but played a 6 iron layup that again went right and into the light rough about 90 yards out. 50° wedge from 90 yards went in. I didnt see it drop unfortunately, knew it was a good line but couldnt see the the ball as it landed but a chap I was playing with shouted "its in".

First eagle was back as a junior, par 4 14th at Hagley GC. Tee from a very elevated poistion on top of a hill was playing downwind in winter. Hard frost and landed my tee shot on the green about after it ran on about 100 yards due to the hard ground, 6 foot from the hole, putted it :)

Eagles the first today. 5 wood, wedge. It was always going to be close, but to drop in, great start.

Sadly, that was it. Peaked too early. Birdied stroke index 2 though.

Played Wallasey today. Me and my usual playing partner played two colleages, one of whom is a Wallasey member.

Decided to play against them as they are on a different team at work but keeping in the spirit of the club, made the format a joint stableford score.

I was going pretty well and apart from a blob at 3 I was 4 over through 13.

14th is a 470 par 5, wind was very slightly with. Hit a great 3 wood off tee and left 243 to pin
Sat up in first cut the ball was screaming hit me. Was also on a slight up slope. I had a bunker to fly short left and recon carry was about 210-215.
Genuinely couldn't have hit the next 3 wood any better. Perfect high flight with a slight fade helped it to stop softly, pin high.

Left me with a good 20fter, with a touch of break. Was so confident of holing it, I chucked my phone to my oppo who filmed it drop.

Apart from another blob at 17, I finished well. +5 for the 16 I putted out on.

And the weather was glorious too!

I like the two back-to-back par 5's at Wallasey (13 and 14), one for a fader, one for a drawer, but both give you a chance.

The 14th is the easier one, though.:D

You're absolutely bang on. And the 14th was down wind too.

I played a fade at the left bunker on 13 withwith 3 wood. Hit a hybrid up to 135 and shanked a 8 iron 60 yards right. Then had a huge ball above feet lob wedge shot to try put close to save par. I didnt and made a 6. It really annoyed me. But I had completely forgotten it after 14.

Back there Friday, I hope the wind is kind

I had an eagle last week on a par 5 then followed it up by a birdie on the next hole. Playing off 18 that was 9 points on 2 holes.

Eagled the par 3 4th at Machrihanish in our July Open on Saturday. PW from 129 yards, bounced twice on the green and dropped. First ever hole in one :D

Awesome - that front 9 at Machrihanish is spectacular, and the back 9 merely excellent. Well worth the long trip and the price of a day ticket to play it twice in a day.

Another eagle for me tonight. 17th hole at craigmillar park. Driver then 5 wood to about five feet but it was a horrid fast downhill putt. Played about two feet of break and barely touched it. Looked like it was going to stop right on the lip; it paused there just long enough for me to say "no way can that putt stop short of the hole" before dropping in!

Wasn't in a comp though.

I had another dubious hole in one on Sunday to add to my pretty poor collection of what may or may not be considered 5.

Warming up for a pro am, played the on-site par 3 course with some other Pros, it's a great little 9 hole course with lengths varying from 40 to 90 yards. Last hole, 90 yds, hit a perfect sand wedge that was always going to be close, pitch, bounce, spin and in to win a couple of quid.
Lads say I should count it as a proper hole in one, I'm not so sure. Nice eagle though.

Glad you like the course. It's in better condition now than it has been for a few years and improving by the week.

Brilliant! I've still never had a hole in one, as I always say at times like this!

It's a slightly weird, unreal feeling. The next couple of holes were a bit of a blur to say the least!

I had my first proper eagle yesterday, and what a place to do it! The 12th hole at Royal County Down. Driver right down the middle of the fairway left me 185yds, 6 iron (downwind) to the middle of the green with a 10 foot putt for eagle.

I'm on a bit of run at the moment, had an eagle in 3 of my past 4 rounds.

No surprise really given that the longest club i have hit into any of the par 5s at my club recently is a 5iron.

should be making a lot more
