Don't know if this will "take off" but how about a rolling thread to report eagles scored in competitions?

Not a terribly common achievement so maybe worth describing the details on here. Anyone who scores a gross eagle in a competition let us know how you did it.....

....and, of course, the inspiration is because I just had one.

Playing the 18th at Kingsknowe, my score was awful although the golf had generally been okish. It's a short par 4, 253 yards. I hit a cracking drive and was disappointed to get to the green to find it had come up just short.

Pin was at the back and it looked a reasonably straightforward chip so I had high hopes of a birdie. I played it low, flew it about halfway and it released out to the hole. Looked like it might just slip past or come up short but it took a break at the end and died into the hole. There was a wee crowd watching in the clubhouse too so that was fun.

Nice way to finish the round, cheered me up and I won some money from the 2s sweep!

:D

...still going up 0.1 though!

Played in the Berkshire mixed foursomes on Saturday and over 2 rounds we had 5 eagle putts and didn't hole a single one of them

I had 2 eagles on the bounce at Strensall in the York Bowl about 3yrs ago. Played the 15th par 5 and pitched it from 60yards to a severe left to right green and it landed 30ft short, spun a little then released to the hole and in. Next par 4 was a 5w to the top of the hill then from 135yds hit a 9 iron and slammed dunked it into the hole. Made a right racket against the pin. The next hole was a par 3, 4iron which never left the pin but you couldn't see the bottom of the pin and I thought I'd just gone 3,2,1..........but it was 10ft past the pin and pitch mark was 10ft away right on line so it wasn't far off from holing out, parred that then went and hit a 7 on the last par 4..............that brought me back down from my high pretty quick

You must be looking for the "I had an eagle putt today...." thread.

It's in the lounge just under "I was going to play today but then it rained..." And just above "I was going to buy something but then I thought better of it...."

HTH

:p

My last comp round I had an eagle that contributed 4 points towards my total of 23 and got me a share of the 2's pot.

Our 2nd is only 310 but has a water hazard at around 265 making driver a daft choice in anything but a scramble.
Hybrid off the tee left me about 80yds and I holed the pitch shot.

The only time I ever had 2 in a round was my one and only visit to Aylesbury playing with Imurg, Fragger and CVG.

As a high handicapper I've only ever had two eagles (one was in a comp). And as you can probably guess, neither of them involved a putt :-)

However, your thread got me thinking about something that happened to me a few years ago. Playing a par 5 on which I had two shots at the time, as my third rolled towards the pin I thought "crikey if this goes in it's 6 points!". Alas it did not drop. But has anyone here ever had a 6 pointer in a stableford comp?

I havn't had one for a while now, will see what I can do this weekend and report back on Monday.

Society competition at Boldon a few weeks back, hole in one on the 136 yard 12th hole.

Nice!

BTW, I'm allowing an amnesty on old eagles as long as they were within the last few weeks but hope to see them as and when they happen in future!

Nobody is interested in the sweet 7 iron I holed at Hilton park playing with my dad in 1984! :D

Had an eagle at our 18th last Tuesday. Driver, 6 iron and a 25 footer. It wasn't in a medal competition but it did win our match on the last green which was nice, having never been in front for the entire round.

Great effort. Give us the details, though, course and hole. Might not mean much to most but some will be able to appreciate it.

Great Yarmouth and Caister.. Was not in contention so ripped a driver on the 15th around 290 and instead of laying up used the tail wind and put a hybrid up in the air to clear a ditch. To genuine surprise it landed just short and ran to the back left where the pin was tucked. Simple roll downhill. Love links golf :D

I remember my first eagle.
Driver about 160 and a 3wood up the hill from about 130.
Walked up the hill to the green, hunted everywhere and finally checked in the hole :D

Not quite forum distances I know but I was only about 10

2nd shot here is a toughie, totally blind and knowing that you usually need 200 yards all carry or your fishing your ball out of the stream

Had 2 at our 18th in medal play this year, quite contrasting tho' 1st was a Drive, 4 iron from 190 into 6 feet and single put, most recent, about 2 weeks back was a poor drive, had 240 for my 2nd so didn't go for it, 8 iron to bottom of hill and in from about 65 yards, the pitch shot isn't too easy, the water and higher bank on the far side can be off putting.

Had many more birdies by laying up rather than going for it.
