Has anyone got any experience of Dubai as we are going next year.
Don't know where at all yet just getting some pointers.
Really would like to take the boy to see the golf.
Unfortunately it will be the first week or second week so probably wont see the real
big boys.
Will do some research soon but looking for experiences, thx

Been to Dubai a couple times -don't like the place at all - Qatar would be a better place

Just found Dubai a bit - too self important and happy to show off all this money - very expensive in the hotel bar

Friends from the golf club love it - but they are minted and it helps out there.

I had a week in Qatar and found the place more friendly but not much to do there but relax.

Why are you looking to go to Dubai ?

Its somewhere the misses really wants to go.
Qatar is an option.
As I said we have loads of research to do and any little snippet helps.
And I thought whilst over there try and catch the golf.

My choice would be Qatar but with kids rhen Dubai is prob a better place - lots more to do

Just don't stay in Bur Dubai and make sure you visit the Irish Villiage but avoid the York International hotel ;)

What about Abu Dhabi that's the week of the golf.

Its nicer than Dubai but not as much to do for kids - Dubai has stunning water parks

You can do both though and a lot do - spend a couple days at Abu Dhabi and see the Mosque and Emirates Palace ( stunning ) then the majority of time in Dubai

My Sis lives in Abu Dhabi, was out there for the 3rd time in December. Went to the race top Dubai when I was out there as well which was really good, especially since its free. Dubai is a good place to visit if you have the money to enjoy it, 2 amazing water parks and some lovely beaches but most are owned by the hotels. AD is much nicer as they have the real money and so its less in your face than Dubai who rely much more on tourism. AD has some of the best golf courses I have played on as well, Saadiyat probably being my favourite. Tell your missus not to go for shopping though as everything is much dearer than here

I went to Dubai a couple of years back, and absolutely fell in love with the place. Stayed in the Jumeirah area, and it was lovely. Didn't play golf, so not sure about that element (although next time I go, and I definitely will be going back, I'll be playing at Emirates GC.) The water parks were incredible, especially Wild Wadi. Getting around Dubai is a piece of cake too, the train system they have in place is excellent and will get you anywhere you need to go. Would definitely recommend staying at the Hilton Jumeirah, and would suggest heading to Frankie's for a meal, which is just up the road from the hotel. It's a Marco Pierre White and Frankie Dettori owned place, and it was awesome. Best steak I'd had until visiting Dinner by Heston recently. Not cheap, but well worth it. Enjoy!

I went to Dubai a few years ago and loved it.

If you go, haggle over everything in the shops, NEVER pay ticket price!

Drink is expensive and you are limited to the western hotels, there are no bars as such due to the religious restrictions although they are the biggest bunch of hypocrites as all the bars are full of locals!

If you take your clubs I can recommend the Montgomerie and Dubai Creek courses although I preferred the former. All the Earth courses opened since I was there so can't comment on them.

Driving is an experience out there if you decide to hire a car

Driving is a piece of cake compared to Saudi :D

Agree about the hypocrites

The York international is full of "ladies of the night" with lots of rich Arabs around them

Yet two westerners together enjoying liaisons - arrested

Just like their poverty is hidden away in the back streets

Been to Dubai once, enjoyed it but not rushing back. There are loads of great hotels, restaurants and golf courses, but the whole place seems strangely and simultaneously sterile and vulgar. There is a sense of a facade with a less attractive scenario behind it. If that doesn't bother you, and you can do without bacon for a while, then you can play some nice golf and get great weather.
