Just hearing on the radio there's an official drought in the above area. Presume there will be hose-pipe bans and all that malarkey. What effect will that have on the Golf Courses in that area, do they get special permission from the Water Company's & local authority's to allow watering? If they don't surely there buggered????

In the last drought I think that we were allowed to water greens only and the water consumption was limited for that. We are not included in this order as far as I know, but we havn't had a lot of rain since the turn of the year, so I guess we will have a hosepipe ban soon!

Looks like the heavens are going to open up here in the south west shortly. Should make the course nice and lush for tomorrow's club championship.

Not that I'm bragging or owt :D ;)

Hope that you have a monsoon and the course is over saturated and it makes short game and putting a squelchy, spongy lottery.

Not that I'm bitter or owt :D ;)

What is a drought?

I think we had about 2 days in may where we had no rain! West of Scotland, can't beat it.

Very pleasant sunny round at Les Ormes in Jersey yesterday tho

I vaguely remember the drought back in the early 80's, had to put bricks in the toilet cistern and ended up with stand pipes for a while.

Rain forecast in herts for next 3-4 days so we should be ok :)

It is raining over here at the moment and has been on and off all week so the course should be OK. Mind you, when I played over at Skegness a month or so ago, they had no rain for 12 weeks and the course was unbelievably dry and cracked.

Can remember the drought of 1976 as if it was yesterday. Trouble is i can't remember yesterday. :D

Yep, dry all day, til the moment I wanted to play golf, then two hours of rain. Got fed up, left, the sun came out and it was lovely. Got home, ten minutes from golf course, clear skies all day, not a drop of rain.

Great.

Raining here and likely to be for the early start tomorrow. Blanket rain for Sunday so a lie in for me I think and maybe a trip to the range followed by a trip to the pro shop to spend my birthday money

Oh bugger! Question. If we have our own reservoir I presume that water does not count? At least I hope it doesn't :D

The company that owns our club also own the old quarry that is a fishing lake on the edge of our course.

The water is still property of the local water authority though, I expect it's the same in your case.

we have three lakes, a river and the odd pond

we are charged for any water drawn from the river and the lake that has direct access to it.

I think that we are either charged at a different rate, or not charged, for water drawn from the 'standalone' lakes. However, the property company has leased fishing rights on one lake so I think they may get upset if their £500+ carp are drowning in air, and the other has a watersport club - don't think waterskis work too well out of water

Get a drought order and then it rains all day!! Luckily it was my sisters wedding yesterday, on the way soaked but get there and the rain held off until we went inside for the meal, bonus.
