driving with a titliest 910 d3 compared to anser driver

I have a ping anser driver 12 degree which i have reduced down to 11.5 degree. i have been playing for 3 months, and am 24 handicap. today i played with a 3 handicapper and a 8 handicapper. They were hitting the ball about 50 yards future than me with 9.5 degree drivers. would it be difficult for me as a high handicapper to to use a driver that has lower loft?

Its more down to technique than loft I bet, I wouldn't change but continue to improve your technique first.

Also a quick shameless plug but have you read my Three Goals method thread? Its a game plan for people looking to break 100 regularly.

Looking at your bag, stiff shafts and a premium ball I think you have got the kit but being off 24 says to me you need to focus on technique to get down lower, that plus having a good game plan and a good short game will help.
 
TBH mate if a 3 & 8 handicapper cannot hit it 50yrds past a 24 then there is probably something amiss. As you get better you will hit it further. Stick with the Anser I have one and it is a great bat. Carry on playing and getting better, please do not get obsessed with trying to hit it miles just yet.
 
I changed from a 12* to 9* for more distance but ended up worse off.

It wasn't all down to the loft it was a bit of poor technique aswell.

I've since gone back to 11* and I'm much more consistent even though I might be 20 yards behind the better players.
 
Im hitting the ball around 225 to 240 straight as a die most tee shoots, the guys today were rocketing the ball 300 yards no problem also straight.

If you are hitting the ball 240 yards straight then why are you bothered about more length? Also how are you off 24 if you hit the ball that well? I would seriously be looking into what is wrong with your short game, rather than worrying about how far you are hitting the ball.

My first decent driver was 11.5 in loft, i felt my driving was getting better and i dropped to a 10.5, then again i felt my driving was really coming on and now im using 10.0 loft
Forget about how far others are hitting it, improve your own game even if your using 12 or 11.5 cause the time will come when you'll know when to change if you ever feel you really need to
 
i played with a 3 handicapper and 16 handicap today. both i hit it further than me. i went round in +8 !! happy :) first time playing childwall. nice course!

Has a tendency to get a bit soggy. But any Braid course tends to be pretty nice - they are certainly generally easy on my eye.

As for the High versus low loft. You should play the loft that gets you best results. It's likely that you swing considerably slower than those guys and probably put quite a bit of 'side-spin' on the ball. High loft maximises distance for lower swing speeds and minimises the effect of the 'side-spin'.

So, until you can hit it about 240 normally or are having problems with the ball ballooning - a sign of too much back-spin - stick with the high loft. You'll be much straighter and with good distance.

Im of 24 because my first rounds of golf I have ever plaid in full they were the 3 cards I put in. I have not put cards in yet. I play with other 24 handicappers and usually score more. Next week put in another three cards and probably be dropped to around 18. Summer tee now so course is long for me so hopefully can get my drives up with the big boys
 
Lee Westwoods driver is 11.25 degrees in loft and he is one of the straightest around. Its the technique rather than the tool!

Do not get hung up with hitting the ball further. My mate plays off 12 and he probably hits it 240-250 off the tee, with a 7i from around 150, but he hits it straight and that is why his handicap is coming down.

As for people hitting it 300+ easily, well that is not very accurate. Being new to golf you probably do not realise that club golfers do not hit it as far as they think they do. at the minute with no run in the fairway I am around 260-270, when summer comes it will be more like 280-290 with a bit of run. Now for club golfers that is big hitting as I can't remember the last tiem I played with someone who was consistently out driving me. Most club golfers if you looked at the averages are around the 230 - 250 mark in the summer.

No mate quite the opposite. Just thundering the ball like i have never seen. hitting par 4 greens in one and going over dog legs quite nice to watch. Using 9.5 degree drivers x stiff shafts massive swing speed, im nowhere near that yet but want to be. more lessons i guess
