Apologies I’m sure this is bound to have been discussed before but I couldn’t find the relevant posts in the search section.

I am just wondering does anyone have a practice area at home in the garage or garden?

I’m considering setting something up in my own garage & just wanting to see if people who have done it thought it was useful or a waste of time?

For those that did find it useful how exactly did you set it up & what products did you use?

I’m mainly considering it as at present as I’m still taking lessons and would give me more opportunities to practice - I’m not overly worried about a simulator etc as the end result isn’t the main thing at present when I’m practicing small things and trying to get in a habit of doing it right.

Hard to find a garage with enough head room. I can swing a 6i in mine. Got an old driving range mat, and an impact screen I put up myself. Cheap as, but don't use much.

Each to their own and I admire the dedication but for me, if I am working on my game I want to see the ball flight and how it reacts. On a long shot I want to see if it as on line and if not what side it missed on. If I am working on the short game or pitching I want to know about my distance control and how it spins and reacts. You can't really do that in a net or garage without a simulator and again, once you go down that road to get something reasonable (and accurate) just bumps the price up

I have a net, range mat in my garage and recently purchased skytrak. Honestly been practicing for about 6 months with just a net and mat and didn't really notice any improvement in my game on the course. Problem with the net there is no real feedback. Added skytrak at the beginning of the year and I'm starting to seeing significant improvement with striking ball. The best part of launch monitor is to see the direction of the flight sometimes strike can feel great but ball is going 20/30 yards to the right or left. I practice 1/2 h every day so for me money well spend, but if you only gone used it 2/3 times a week without launch monitor I rather go to the driving range and watch the flight of the ball.

I’ve turned my garage into a SkyTrak simulator. You need at least 9’ for head room. If your garage has a pitched roof its about £300 to get the trusses raised. Excluding the SkyTrak I’ve spent about £1300 on the rest of the kit but it’s fantastic at this time of year. If you’re on Facebook get access to the SkyTrak user group. They always talk indoor builds.

In one house I used to have an old bakers store in my back garden tall enough for a mezzanine floor. I used to practice with airflow balls and a perfectly struck 6 iron would hit the back wall apex.

Even if you can't see the flight, there has to be some benefit to hitting 50balls a day into a net.

If I wasnt so lazy I would definitely set up one and use it.

I did it and I did not notice any benefits whatsoever. If you don't see actual flight you can ingrain wrong habits in your swing, especially if your net is not far enough from you.
If you bad shot is slice how will it help anybody to keep repeat that swing over and over. Without seeing ball flight you can't change or adjust your swing. I agree with swinging golf club without the ball can help but not hitting balls

You dont really need to see a ball flight to know if you have hit the ball solid.

If your bad shot is a slice you should work on a stronger grip and try to swing in a less cutty fashion.

Even hitting 50 pitch shots into a net. Again you will know if you are making good contact. Doing this has to be better than sitting on the sofa.

Yes as long as you're actually working on something and doing drills it has to be of benefit . It's just as easy to hit balls at the range with no results too.

If you don’t mind me asking where did you get your mat & net from?

I had purchased a skytrak from gumtree but the 5 second delay and amount of shots it missed annoyed me. Are the new models any better
There is no new SkyTrak model but if it’s set up right it rarely misses a shot. I’ve had mine for about 4 years now.

It has stiff competition now with the new mevo+ which is radar based but it still has the odd misread and requires the entire length of a standard uk garage to be able to read the shot which could be problematic.
