hi
which one of these would be good for a 28 handicapper hu can usually hit it around 200 yds .......nike sq dymo2
, ping g10 , wilson staff spine or r7 limited , or any other drivers that are forgiving. thanks

For a high handicapper I'd suggest you hang on to (most of) your cash. The Ben Sayers Benny driver got a great review from GM - as I may have mentioned before ( :o) I got one & am not disappointed. Very forgiving and will give drivers costing twice the price a good run for their money. Mine will do me till I get quite a bit lower than 20.

You could do a lot worse - and as you get better you can upgrade - if you feel you need to.

Off 28 I'd leep my money in my pocket and look to improve my swing to something more consistant and use a 3 or 5 wood to make sure I found fairways. From there you can take advantage of winter rules rather than blasting it further but wilder with a driver.

Hi member I took the game up 2years ago and had the same problem with my driver.Started out with a handicap of 28 now down to 18,I bought a Benross driver for £50 and after a few lessons and hours of practice down my local range I am now driving pretty well.My regular partner plays of 15 and uses a nike sumo,99% of the time I am now out driving him.I would like to try out a top name driver but at the moment if it is not broken dont fix it.I maybe wrong I dont know but my driver has put yards onto my game when I get it right, keep practising, good luck and please let me know how you get off.

Im a 25 h/cap and normally hit my drives high and right. Have recently bought the Calloway Diablo with 11 dgr loft and set to a draw and Im now a lot straighter and hitting more fairways. It might be a confidence thing but the driver deffinatly helps.

Off 28, well, I'd drop the driver and make good use of the 3 wood. Your getting two strokes on 9 of the holes you play in a comp aren't you. So, drop the driver, play the 3 wood, keep the ball in play on the short stuff and make good use of the strokes you get.

Play well and your confidence will grow. Then you can look at a driver and what it may bring to your game.

:D

Dear Billser dont understand your last comment,if you are calling me stupid, whats the problem? Is it because you are using a Ping and I have a Benross?

Dear matt01,thanks for the reply, was a little upset when first read it,need as much advice as I can get as only taken the game up 2 years ago,but I have spend every single moment working hard on my game when I can especially having 2 young children as well, thanks again

Its his sig.

If you look at a lot other posters they have a little saying at the end or a list of their clubs or both. It's not aimed at you I'm sure. The advice is sound.

If your forum name is accurate, slicedagain, you would be better off leaving the driver out for the time being. Money spent on lessons is almost always money better spent than on new equipment, so the advice you were given to that effect is advice often given to players with much lower handicaps too.

All I can say is that the Wilson Spine is pretty easy to hit.

I wouldn't personally go anywhere near the others, unless you are thinking of getting a high loft version.

According to Tom Wishon.

I (as an average club golfer) ought to be totally unable to hit the Wilson as it has a 46" shaft.

I agree with him on almost anything/everything he says apart from this one small part of his theories.

If I was giving advice to a beginner, I'd say buy a driver for the big head, but get as close to a 3 wood in loft as you possibly can. It's just a shame nobody makes a 14 or 15 degree club with a massive head but 3-wood length shaft.
The closest I could get to one was a 13 degree benny, made by Ben Sayers. I use it all the time a.t.m. as carry is everything now the course is wet and ball doesn't run much.

just because he's off 28 doesn't mean he can't hit a driver - that seems to be an automatic assumption about any high handicapper.

I can hit a driver, reasonably well most of the time, unless I try to kill it. I can't hit a fairway.

of the clubs the OP mentioned, I've tried them all,
didn't get on with the Nike,
hated the Ping - everything far right
hit the Wilson well but hated the noise and the white stick - but they are very cheap now
Love the r7 limited especially with that Matrix Ozik.
