Driver v 3 wood

Don't know what everyone's talking about, my 3 hybrid went at least 245 at the range in the snow the day before last... :o

Not very aerodynamic, but it got out there. Must be the nike volt green in the cavity.

Driver is the only club you hit the ball on the up, irons you strike down on them and 3 wood you sweep off the deck.
Haven't watched the "angle of attack" video, but I guess this will cover a lot of points.
When you sky the driver you've hit down on the ball instead of sweeping it off the tee, or really on the up.
Probably best to get a lesson from a Pro or/ as well look on you tube for driving technique.
Most important is

1. As Bob says line the ball up with your front foot. Between heel and toe whatever suits.
2. At address tilt your spine away from the target to help hit the ball on the up and maintain this angle through the swing.
3. What will help with point 2 is keep 60% of your weight on the back foot through the swing

Gee's and I thought I hit a 3 wood a long way I'm around the 225 mark, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less and I have seen 250+ on a couple of very rare occasions when the wind was coming from behind me and I got a decent bit of roll going on but other than that my average carry is around the 200 mark !...

This. Shouldn't be hitting your 3 wood further than your driver. If you can hit a 3 wood that far, you should be able to hit the driver a long way, just need a lesson to work out where you're going wrong!

A position I find myself in at the moment although I've just replaced the shaft on my x2 hot driver with a 'tour stiff green' so will see over the coming season if there's any improvement, if not the driver's gone and I'll stick with the 3 wood !...

Wether you hit a 3 wood 250 or not, you must still be hitting it a fair distance to think it is going that far. If you hit a 3 wood that well then why are you going all out to learn to hit a driver.

As a beginner you would probably be better off sticking with a 3 wood off the tee, spending the time learning to hit your irons better and have some short game lessons.

If if you do learn to hit your irons better then you will drop your scores very quickly. 250 off the tee is about the same as my 3 wood. That then leaves something like an 8/9 iron into the green on a 400 yard hole.

My 250 3 wood distance is when the weather is milder than now. The last time I hit it 250 was in the barmy 18 degree weather in December! My 3 wood at the moment is considerably less in these cold bitter months!

Ive got the same clubs and am not a big hitter..

Driver is good, I like it, and average 200-220... summer, if i really connect, 240y
3 wood will get to 200 on a good day, but averages 180ish....

I must try harder....

3 wood has always been my bread and butter tee shot club. The smaller head allows it to be manipulated. Sometimes you should play the contours of a hole and a 3 wood promotes that.
Drivers now are pretty hard to shape they are so corrective.

+1 for getting some lessons. Best thing I ever did. I played for years without hitting my driver - honestly couldn't do anything but slice it. Eventually got some lessons and the pro sorted it out in under an hour. Best money I've ever spent.
