Ok I was comparig a few drivers before I try them all out - I thought a good indication of the shaft stiffness was the torque, however I am now confused.

Ping G10 TFC128 Reg, (Current driver and I find it a bit soft.) Torque 4.6°
Wilson Spine - UST V2 HMOI Regular 61g 4.2°
TM Tour Burner - RE*AX® SuperFast 60 by Fujikura 3.2°
Now looking at these the TM shaft seems to be quite a bit out of line from the other 'Regular' shafts.
Next I looked at the Ping options - the Prolaundch Red ALL have 3.0° of torque - they just weigh different amounts. IE XStiff and Reg are rated at 3.0°torque, While the Diamana blue are all 3.0° :D :D :D

Now I seem to have confused myself (again), which is the best paper comparison to perform to help me choose potental driver shafts. I do intend to look at a few in the shop but I would like to ask if they have a ******* and a ******* shaft rather than trying 50 different unsuitable ones.

This is exactly why c/f was invented.

Not much help to me when I only have one place to get CF'd and they have a limited amount of stock - I am of the opinion that I should have a vague idea of what I want and tell them to define the shaft and head from my approximate parameters.

No point in me going to a few places before and hiting a ****** shaft which is labelled as a reg, but I know its a very soft shaft.

And to confuse matters even further.
My G10 had a regular Prolaunch red shaft in it, my Benny has the same shaft but in "stiff".
Yet the Benny feels a lot softer than the G10 did.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Also C/F is only as good as the fitter, if they need to hit sales targets or have a brutal hangover then they may not get you the best suited club.
In he end if you only have a half hour its not a lot of time to try a few drivers nevermind tape them all up then try them.
I am simply trying to get some idea of what the spec's mean.

For that type of information, you would be better off posting on Golfwrx forum, as the guys on there are a bit anal about shaft specs.

I am not sure that a 5 minute brush up on what the numbers mean is going to do anything other than make you look like you haven't a clue when you talk to a c/f fitter. The guys at Titleist didn't have me hitting loads of shafts, they very quickly narrowed it down from the figures spat out of the LM. I probably only hit 6 different shafts, as from my stats it was obvious that alot of shafts would not be suitable.

I guess it depends on the quality of the fitter.

The Matrix Ozik shaft in my driver is the by Titleist version, and the only difference between that and the standard version is the torque. But apparently this torque value was engineered in for the style of head. Not sure where this leads, but I think unless you are an expert, it isn't ever going to mean much.

Smiffy, if your shafts aren't pured, it may be that the reg is stiffer than the stiff. This is why you need to buy the one you try, unless they have been pured of course.

Thats my biggest concern. Just trying to get a bit of an idea before so I dont get shafted ( :o ) by Nevada bobs again.

Have a look at this article:

Torque

At least it shows, the non-relationship between torque and stiffness - I think!!

Have a look at this article:

Torque

Such a great article, now I dont have to ask why its in degrees either.

Basicaly Torque is the shafts twisting ability (longitudinal axis) - NOT the bending ability - thus I am suited to a lower torque driver - it also shows why my bad shot with my soft shaft is a slice and not a hook as expected. Thank you!!!!

Ken you could try the Golfcentre in Lisburn. I have always found them a lot more helpful than Bobs. They use the trackman(I Think) and allowed me to compare hitting my own driver compared to others. But do agree with you, the fitter in a store needs to have time etc to give you his full attention.
