hi have in my driver at the minute a aldila serrano stiff shaft but have been told its still a little too whippy for me i was just wondering if any of you might know of a differant shaft to try
The Serrano is a decent enough shaft, in a range of shafts named after hot food stuffs - Habanero and Wasabi are other models. It is a medium-high launch shaft and not the firmest but not the softest in its market. Better than the standard Ping TFC.
To deal with the OPs question, there are plenty of stiffer shafts around, including, obviously, a stiffer version of the Serrano - i.e go to a S if already in an R etc.
But before doing that, I think it would be good to find out what the problem is. If he has just been told it is whippy, but is hitting it OK, I wouldn't change. If he is hitting high hooks, perhaps it is too soft.
What distance does the OP carry his drives and his 6 irons. Be honest. What flex is the Serrano, and what is the driver loft?
One other thought is that if he bought the club from a legit retailer, it might be worth contacting Ping who could modify the driver for less money than an aftermarket swap. That would be best done with a custom fitting recommendation from a pro.
the driver shaft is stiff my 6 iron carrys 175 and driver about 270 280 the problem i have is my drives set off like a plainlow then balloon high and right
If you carry the ball 175 with a 6 and 270 with a driver, then you are probably on the outer limits of Stiff, and X Stiff might be a better fit. A decent fitter could also put you in an intermediate flex, between S and X. I would see what Ping customer service says.
