Driver Custom Fitting for a novice?

maybe a lesson would have helped before buying that SF rubbish

The SF is correcting a swing fault..

it is boring but have a lesson with a pro first
maybe ask him if you can try what he has in the shop

trust me iv been through about 8 drivers before i had a lesson.. The lesson was what transformmed my swing.

Firstly I don't believe SF is "rubbish"
2. I don't find lessons with a pro boring in the least as that is what I did anyway
3. My coach is a teaching Pro not a shop Pro
4. My teaching pro advised me to get a proper fitting as he was aware of my struggles with the club.
5. What is the point of asking what someone has in the shop? I might as well have a fitting and get the full range of clubs and a specialist professional advice from someone with all the gear rather than having a bash myself and making another mistake with the choice of club.

I'm afraid thats not the clubs fault.
Where is the ball positioned in relation to your feet?

just inside my left ankle.

I went along in the end. It was a really good session, tried a few different drivers on the flightscope, and the outcome was the pro told me to stick with my current driver as there wasn't enough of a difference to justify buying a new one.

it turned into more of a coaching lesson, he has told me to ditch the orange tees I was using, and made a few slight changes to my grip and swing (particularly on the follow through) which got good results during the session. It turned out I was hitting most of my drives in the middle of the clubface. I had assumed I was topping them and that was causing the low shots, but he explained that was down to me closing the club face which the changes he has suggested should address.

all in all it was a good experience, and I was impressed that he went out of his way to stop me buying a new driver.

I have been playing for a year now. My driving is pretty erratic to say the least, am currently using a Nike Vapor which I picked up cheap on the net last year.

Am thinking of booking a fit this week and trying out a few different drivers. There is a place near me which is shutting down as the owner is retiring, they have a good rep for fittings and was hoping I might pick up a bargain.

would I benefit from getting fitted now, or should I leave it until I am a bit more competent?

If your swing isn't consistent enough, I would have lessons first but there is no harm in trying new clubs if that is what you really want to do

With the adjustability of modern drivers these days you could most likely adjust it to suit your swing as it evolves
