Driver / 3 Wood Distance

I always thought you drove well Podge.

I drivers these days are so more forgiving that they are worth sticking with. You will need it at some point.

To answer your question.....flat calm summers day....my 3w carries 200-210 and rolls out circa 20 yards, my driver carries 220 and rolls out 20 yards.

I got to the stage where I wasn't comfortable on the T with my driver at all and got rid. My 3 wood is generally there or thereabouts with people I play with when they are using their driver, but i'm thinking if i want to continue a downward trend on the HC then I may need that extra distance from the off (although accuracy at the green is most important one for me to improve).

Will definitely go for a fitting when the time is right, but also debating if the risk/reward is worth it for the extra 20 yards (generally seems about the difference between 3wd and driver for most people on here).

I keep plugging away at the driver here 'n' there but to be honest I don't really know why I bother as I hit so well with the 3-wood that all the chaps I play with reckon I don't need to bother with a driver !...

Lodge its the same at your place as it is every course.

There is always holes where it is safe to open up the shoulders and give it everything off the tee with the driver. there are holes where you might want to drop to a 3 wood or play a much smoother clip with the driver.

The decision should be made on the tee depending on the dangers and your usual miss or even your miss that day.

I am constantly on other fairways but most of the time I do it when I know its safe to miss out there.

I won't be carrying a 3 wood again, picked one up for this year but just can't get along with the lack of loft off the deck.

Driver is good for 250 carry
5 wood is good for 220 off the deck and 230 from the tee.

If I need to hit a fairway, a long iron gets pulled. A bad one is usually a slap or high in the face so they still go straight, I've got no issue hitting a 3 iron into a green.

I might push a rare drive out to 260, but most are between 240-250. A good 3 wood might make 230 but the majority are 215-225. However, I rarely miss a fairway with the 3 wood, whereas the driver can have some serious off days.

All of this I can relate to, are we related

Driver 230yards average and 3-wood is 210y average.

One of my 2016 goals is to get 10% more distance off the tee

I'm actually going to test a 5-wood as I also reckon I could almost match the 3-wood distances but have more success with it off the fairway and therefore have a more practical club in the bag

Make a date with Dr Bob, golf is not a game of perfect. Smash down that mental barrier. Sounds as though people who know you know you can play.
