Following on from the thread "fly it high or chip and run"how often do you get down in two shots from

1.40 yrds
2.60-80 yrds
3.100 yrds

out of ten efforts?
Myself i would say
4
3
3
obviously room for improvement.

Either they're great figures or I'm total pants.

I'd say mine were :
1.5
1
0.5

Your numbers could be my answers to "how many times would you hit the green from..." !! :o :o :D

Are talking about putting here? 1.4 yards, 2.6 to 2.8 yards and 3.1 yards? :D

Out of ten attempts I would hope for something like.

4, 3, 2.

If you mean 140 yards, 260 to 280 yards and 310 yards, then probably more like.

1, 1 if I'm lucky, 0.

3/10 from 100 yards means you must hit it to within 6-8 feet about 6/10 times as previously discussed about 50% of putts are missed at this distance (on tour). Fantastic stuff.

As for me, probably 3, 2 and 1 on a good day.

Just to put a bit of perspective on this, I've just been looking at the PGA Tour website for similar stats.

The closest I've found so far is % of birdies or better when approaching from less than 125 yards, fairly relevant I'd say.

The best stat for the 2009 season is 33%, and an average stat (going halfway down the list) is 23%.

Between 2 and 3 times per 10 attempts.

 :D

Just went through my round from last night

Ist, down in two from off the green.
2nd lost ball after drive, played prov into 10 feet and one putt.
7th down in two from bunker.
11th down in two from off the green.
16, 17 and 18 down in two from less than 60 yards.
Missed chances from off the green at 8th 9th and 15th

Just by chance that’s 7 from 10. Oh, only the 17th and 18th were birdies. So my stats are nothing to do with birdies, just up and downs.

I think if you were looking at the pros stats from around the green, especially 40 yards and in, it would be entirely different.

Purely from yesterday's medal:

100yds:- 1 try 0 success

60-80:- 3 tries 1 success

40yds:- 9 tries 3 success

Probably shows that my original guess was relatively accurate all be it over only 18 holes.

Sorry Tommo, my post wasn't directed at you even though it said Re: Tommo. Apologies if you thought it was.

I should have been clearer. I think it's relevant to "getting down in 2 from 100 yards". Part 3 of the OP's question.

There are all sorts of scrambling stats from different distances but I didn't think it would be a fair comparison as they would be from all sorts of trouble as well as fairway, light rough etc.

I used birdie stats because it's down in 2, and 'presumably' from a decent position, whereas scrambling stats could be behind trees or in bushes etc.

Oddly I'm very good at not leaving myself any of those yardages... so ZERO for all of them ;)

83yds is my speciality where I can get down in two nearly everytime that I don't take 1,3,4,5,6 or more. Unless I pick up.

1.40 yrds - Dunno. I'm only 40 yards by mistake....which is almost never. I might miss all 18 greens, but not by 40 yards!

2.60-80 yrds - Dunno. I'm so unpredictable from the distance, I'm just happy to be on the green.

3.100 yrds. Now we're talking. :) ... I know this distance very well.....and my average is ???

.....haven't a clue. I make most of my birdies from 90-110 yards, so that's good enough for me.
