I'm off on holiday to Dorset next week and hoping to get a couple of rounds in while I'm away. I'll be staying close to Lyme Regis and I've found Axe Cliff golf club online that looks decent and is close to where I'm staying.

I'm after some suggestions for other courses to take a look at from someone with a bit of local knowledge. My requirements are:

Within 30 mins drive from Lyme Regis
Mid-week green fees below £30
Friendly to visitors (including ones that aren't much good!)

Any thoughts?

Bridport and South Dorset GC. On the road between West Bay and Burton Bradstock. A links style course but high up on the cliffs. Pick a calmish day! The par 3 sixth is stunning.
Lyme Regis GC is ok.

Best course fitting your criteria is East Devon although not sure what the green fees are. Twire is a member there, he says on his sig to contact him if anyone is in the area and looking for a game

Had a look at that one just now, looks a nice course. Additional googling has also turned up Windwhistle, Honiton and Otters Valley (this one doesn't look great though). Any thoughts on any of these or Axe Cliff GC?

Sorry, I'm in Dorset but right across the other side so don't know any of the courses down that way apart from E Devon. Came Down is decent though, that's on the road between Dorchester and Weymouth. I don't think green fees will be too expensive there.

Here you are. http://www.dorsetgolfresort.com/golf-courses/green-fees/

I only played it once, and can't really remember much about it - but a few lads I used to play footy with have a knock around it fairly regularly.

If you call them, and say you're on holiday and looking for a deal on a green fee, you'll probably get offered discount. Especially if you say you're going to do a review of the place on the Golf Monthly Forum afterwards.

Enjoy Dorset, feels like a long time ago since I was back home. Beautiful part of the world.
