Went along to the Scotland v Australia game last night which I have to reluctantly say will be my last
My mate got into a bit of a heated discussion at the Australia goal with a guy behind us who was slating Alan McGregor for loosing the goal. My mate defended McGregor and was accused of being a hun (Dunfermline supporter, but not that it really maters)
We were planning to leave early and it was probably a mistake to get to our feet just when Ian Black was coming on but we did not really give to much of a look until we heard the booing. We shook our heads in bewilderment/disgust at the booing dished out to him (I will leave the debate on the why and right and wrongs to others) as we made our way past other fans. The guy behind us who my mate had a disagreement with earlier leapt to his feet shouting that you (multiple swear words) Huns are no (swear word) welcome here. This brought our leaving to the attention of other fans as we made our way up the steps to the exit.
We made our way up the steps with abuse ringing in our ears and many spitting towards us. Now I am big enough and ugly enough to look after myself but I also had my 4 year old son with me.
After making it into the concourse behind the stand I had to wipe the phlegm from my sons hair, face and coat. I too had a fair amount on my coat. My son was very quiet on the way home and to be honest slightly shocked by the whole episode and when putting him to bed he told me he didn’t want to go back there again.
I have been a member of the Supporters Association and its previous incarnation, the travel club since 1992 but I can’t see myself returning any time soon. Does it really matter about which club you support? One of us as stated is not even a Rangers fan At the end of the day we are all there to support Scotland.
The Tartan Army Spokesman Hamish Husband (Yes that’s a real name) has been silent today when he should really be speaking out. This man was quick to speak out when a Scottish/Rangers player wished to play in the Olympics stating that the Tartan Army would turn against anyone who did so. Silly comments like this can go a long way to cause the nutter element to take things into their own hands.
PS There were one a few fans decrying the actions of many. I wish I could go back and thank them but I just wanted out of there. One old gent in particular who got to his feet and challenged the idiots deserves a mention. He could barely stand without his stick and looked so frail but he was certainly prepared to defend us.
