Does This Give The Right Impression

But Oddsocks, would you really pitch up, knowing that the group you are meeting are going to be putting in a competition scorecard, and introduce a guest to play alongside you as you play in the comp :D

I think it was unfortunate and badly timed to introduce a guest at this particular time

I know our local clubs attached to Municipal courses get blocks of tee times for their comps and general play takes place outwith these comp tee slots. There's no mix and match ;)

So...the guest was allow to play with partners who were playing in the comp? I'm sorry but thre's no way I'd allow that.

I don't see what harm it would do?

I agree with Bobmac, Im not sure I'd want to be a member of a club who didnt have the flexibility to play with friends. Doesnt make any difference at all whether 1,2, 3 or all 4 of a 4 ball play in the comp or not.

I went round last week, we had an unofficial 4 ball match, 1 of whom was in the comp, the 3 of us werent. Just meant he had to hole out on everything and we didnt. No big deal at all.

can't have just 1 in the comp surely? or do you have to designate a marker?

As long as one of us marked his card, its no bother. The 3 of us had played the comp on Saturday, so no issue at all.

I would have thought if you'd paid your money you would automatically become a member for the day anyway. I dont see a prob playing off the whites or with 2 others in a comp , they can mark each others cards without any fuss.

Totally agree.
It is a hobby after all. A way of getting some peace and quiet out with a few mates on a nice day.

totally agree too. I don't see the harm in guests playing while the comp is on although it probably doesn't happen many places including our course.

The other point about tees would have annoyed me so much I would have probably walked out. If a guest or visitor pays to play at a club, they should have the same rights and respect as any member.

I also think it is a better policy to let people play from whatever tees they want as long as they don't hold people up etc - spreads the wear on different areas and probably keeps the course in better shape.

visitors not being able to play from competition tees is so common that it's the reverse that stands out. there are not a few clubs where members (unless Cat 1) are discouraged from playing from them except in competition, which doesn't make life any the easier come the medal!
