Dodgy Masters Coverage

I have never understood why the live feed for the rest of the world is cut when the yanks go to an advert break. The cameras are still rolling, so why not carry on broadcasting it?

I know we all love the masters, but how does it continue as a major?

It is an invitational (with some bizarre invitations).
Coverage is terrible.
They only allow a few hours of coverage each day.
You can't buy a ticket to watch it live.
You can't play the course as a punter.
The course (although beautiful) is an ecological disaster.
It is presented by the dullest bunch of time expired idiots.
It allows a 72 year old to shoot a non competitive score at the expense of someone being in the field who might actually win (monty anyone?).

That said, if Sandy hadn't won the thing, and come out of retirement to play on the seniors, he wouldn't be playing either.

I disagree:

It is an invitational (with some bizarre invitations) - invitations based on recent tournament winners and the top 50 - outside of Scotland, who cares about Monty really?

Coverage is terrible - have you ever watched US TV in general - the weekend will ABC (or NBC?) as opposed to ESPN who do the first 2 days.

They only allow a few hours of coverage each day - that is all the US networks cover and as their advertisers pay of it then why would they show any more?

You can't buy a ticket to watch it live - can you can't get a ticket to Chelsea/Manure in 2 weeks time either but you can if you have enough cash and are willing to buy it from some bloke called Fred. If you wanted to get a ticket you would get one....

You can't play the course as a punter - unless you know a Member - heard of Queenwood in Surrey?

The course (although beautiful) is an ecological disaster - explain?

It is presented by the dullest bunch of time expired idiots - step forward Ewan Murray - yawn......

It allows a 72 year old to shoot a non competitive score at the expense of someone being in the field who might actually win (monty anyone?) - as opposed to The Open, US Open who allow any old chopper to enter and than qualify and then go round in 80/81+???

That said, if Sandy hadn't won the thing, and come out of retirement to play on the seniors, he wouldn't be playing either - indeed.....

Wouldn't it be great if you could choose which groups to follow? Like with BBCi just more advanced for Augusta.

If Sky could get cameras on the course I am sure you would be able to. They have selectable coverage on most other sports so am sure they could do it with golf.

If any of you have Sky Plus set the timer and after half an hour start watching.
You then miss all the irritating American bits and can spend longer in teh Pub/ with the wife.

Also let her watch her own programme and then on Sunday you will be able to watch the whole of the final round!

The Americans can just [****] right off with their golf coverage. Its like they don't even want to show it. And I don't want to know about advertisers and that, theres only one way to show a golf tournament and thats like the BBC do when the Opens on - all day, start to finish. Watching the Shell Houston last sunday - the golf came back after an ad break - ONE SHOT was shown and then straight to some more bastard ads! They can't really be happy that thats how they watch telly, with ads every 3 minutes.
And as for that load of rubbish about the masters not being a major! It is what it is and thats why we love it. Its more like a festival of golf, they invite who they want, although if your good enough on the world rankings you get there no matter what, former champs can play even if they are in their 70s, they have an honourary starter who plays one shot then retires...[****] it Amen Corners just gone live, see ya!

benny.....you made me laugh.....good call.

What would sort it out for me would be to have Boo and that lovely girl from PGAtour.com doing the commentary together.

I can see it now.......

smiley u.s. pageant queen
"wow! did you see that great shot, some sort of fadey high thing with bundles of spin" grin, grin, adjust hair...
boo weekley
"aww, I downt no, I just wanna goen catch me ten pounder" more vacant than an empty box of chocolatsss

We all watched Phul M rattle the flag on the first so why show us it 5 times, the same goes for Tiger zipped flick from 30 yds that spun back off the rough. There seems to be no rythm from the feed the Beeb are getting and I have said in a previous post that Steve Ryder is sadly missed. He must have pished his y fronts when the bosses at the BBC told him Luggy Lineker was taking over. Lineker is a complete *ankerman.

I think its obvious that its very much influenced by the American broadcasters.

Look at the way the BBC cover the Open. If they could broadcast the Masters continually with minimal breaks I'm sure they would. Their contract with ESPN/CBS probably dictates they can only show what they themselves put on the air.

I think the breaks in coverage are due to a combination of it being an american feed (attention span of a gnatby the way their TV coverage goes) and the restrictions placed on them by the Masters organisers. They used to ban cameras from the front nine not so long ago and I think they are still banned from the 1st tee!

At least we are seeing some golf, watching american coverage most weeks and you'd think we were having a putting contest!

Gary's little chortles at his own "jokes" are starting to grate already though they should get rid and just fill with Ken on the course far more fun!

The BBC do have on fairway reporters for the few events they host (Ken Brown goes out) but they insist on having numpty's for that as well Maureen something or other and Paul Eales.

I think the Amen Corner feed is shocking with limited camera angles and a prat of a commentator. Turned it off last night and waited until 9.00

still better than nothing to look at until 9pm and free (at the point of delivery) I suppose.

Can't help feeling i'm missing so much going on before and after which is frustrating but beggars can't be choosers.

...tell you what though, whichever donkey is responsible for tweaking the colour and brightness in the BBC transmission truck needs shooting- some greens look burnt out and some look like it's dusk.

I know your trying to cut NTSC to Pal but pull your finger out of your backside and get it right FFS mate

YTS trainee is it?

poor

Was reading an article in the Times this morning, the American commentators got Sergio Garcia mixed up with other golfers up until his final few holes last night they thought he was Mike Weir, Paul Casey and a few others. Where do they get these people?

Gary Lineker is AWFUL, he is sooooo boring!

I have aired my views on WING NUT in a previous thread and thinkl its time for a petition to get him removed from anything not fooyball related. If they don't budge, then I think we should ask for Mark James to commentate on the Euro 2008 championships.
