I can understand your doubts being new to both the game and the club. I came across a situation early on where a guy playing in a comp that I was not playing in, played a wrong ball - mine (we were on adjacent fairways, he hit left me right, but I knew I had cleared the hedge and he hadn't).
I did nothing at the time, partly because I didn't know what to do.
Got to know him later, really nice guy, Irish, in his 70's - hits a damned straight ball usually. I realised then that it had been a genuine mistake and that if I had said something he would have taken the penalty like the gent that he is.
