Lee Westwood is reported to have questioned whether Tiger Woods will have a good influence on how Team USA performs in the Ryder Cup.

Personally, on balance, I think he'd be an asset because the crowd will want USA to win and Tiger's presence will also boost that momentum.

No....

Will Westwood be a good influence? he is currently being sued for taking money of juniors who he promised to make super starts and did not. We can all point fingers at one another.

How could you not have Tiger involved if he wants to be.

Difficult to say really, only the players really know how much effect Woods will have in the US team room. There have been numerous reports in the past that he is a bit of a loner and doesn't mix but that could easily be speculation by journalists.

I agree with Dan, he should be in the team as it would guarantee Europe at least 1 point in the singles :D

Poor quality gamesmanship.

I'd 'big' him up myself and say how it helps them no end and gives the US team a huge advantage. Expectation comes before a fall...

Not sure he'd be that useful though, he never much cared for the event.

I think its just Westwood trying to stir things up, Woods will play a part for the US and I think it will help them.

I also think that as D4S pointed out that Woods has been a bit of a loner in the past in the Ryder Cup, and that he has realised that he wants to be captain one day and he needs to change to be captain one day. What a better way than to be a vice anytime he doesn't qualify. Tiger is a changed man, unlikely to get the last pick, although it would create a bit of a stir if he was.

so no majors Westwood wants to question 14 majors Tiger, get back in your box Lee

I don't see the relevance of 14 Majors (individual) versus Ryder Cup (team). Westwood has 6 RC's to Tiger's 1

Are you sure about that?

It's the School/Academy that's being sued, not Westwood - apparently after parents were sued for non-payment!

As for Tiger being a positive influence...While I think he can be highly motivated personally, his 'team' performance has generally been 'average to poor', so Westwood certainly has a point imo.

Could increase interest/crowds though.

Linking the Daily Mail automatically proves my point regardless of the content or facts involved.... internet 101. :D

Guess only have to look back through RC history to see Woods isn't exactly the RC legend to match his Tour status

The last time the US won was when Woods wasn't playing or involved in any way

Always been plenty of talk about the US players failing to gel together behind someone who should have been their leader on the course

I certainly think it's a very valid question to ask

As much as Tiger " has been the man" when it came to majors, when it comes to the Ryder cup he has been the " invisible man". So how that will help the current US Ryder cup team I am all ears. Westwood was saying what many golfers have been thinking and saying for years. What has Tiger contributed?
To turn this topic on its ass, Ian Poulter has been the "invisible man" when it comes to Majors, but the Ryder cup, poults " has been the man". Would he be an asset as a vice captain? Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Tiger is a distraction to the US Team, the media swarm on him, watching every move and listen to every comment, Hero or Goat, he can't win in a team (non-golfing sense) set up.

There are precisely 12 reasons why Davis love choosing tiger woods as a vice captain is a tactical master stroke - The European wives and girlfriends!

Imagine yourself a ryder cup rookie. You are on the 1st tee, nervous as hell, surrounded by a hostile native crowd and wondering how the hell you are going to make contact with the ball. You look into the crowd for your significant other, just to see a friendly face and get a reassuring smile before you do battle....

Instead you look over and see tiger having a wee chat and giggle with your missus, pulling the moves, flashing the pearly whites while ushering her towards the vip champagne tent with a glint in his eye??

Watch your game go to hell for the next few hours while your mind runs riot!

Davis love - you are a frickin genius!

Westwood would be better keeping his trap shut or has he forgotten he has been a wild card for 3 of his RC's. I think he is trying to take the focus from himself but that will change when he starts playing,
that I am sure off.

Westwood is such a T at....

im sure that Westwood speaks as highly of you :temper:

Westwood needs to focus on the job in hand and not get drawn on comments about Tiger. Yes tigers RC playing record is not the best but he is not playing and he could be a big motivator for the US.If the US win then they'll be saying it was wrong to bring in woods,if they win it was a masterstroke.
westwood slightly fortunate to get a pick so should be grateful he s there. If it was a different captain he may be at home at worksop watching it.
