Hey,
I have been inspired by a recent post on here. I have just turned 16 years old and am currently a 22 handicapper that can regularily shoot under 90 and play to about 18... :p
Do you think it wouldbe possible for someone like me to reach scrath or very low e.g. 4 or under???
Thanks :)

Absolutely.

Forget about getting:

a normal job
drunk
laid
stoned

for a minimum of 5 years and if you are naturally talented and practice hard, Robert's your Mother's Brother. ;)

why is you handicap 22 if you regularly shoot under 90? :D
Doesn't it happen when the pressure's on? first thing to combat if you're keen to get your handicap down

Well i shot 2 87's in a row in competitions and they can only cut me so much and now i cannot get any lower until competitions in the new year, :P
I got 5 shots in 2 comps, had to be the last 2 as well, :( i really really want to get lower!.:)

My experience with anything that is determined by hard work and commitment is that the only requirement for success is desire; you must desire your endstate enough and you must not allow anything to deminish that desire. A good start point for trying to imagine how much desire is 'enough' is to realise that the limits of your imagination is probably not enough. Take your desire and multiply it.

1994 , follow the advice from experience forummers and during the winter find somewhere to practice from 100 yds in,use the clock face method (variables on the length of your swing) with 9,w and sw.Stay loose below the elbows. :D

keep it on the short grass ;)

Definitely! When I was 16, I was off 24. I am now 18 and a half and, in that time I have reduced my handicap to 14.5, having hit a 75 already, with knee injuries and serious knee operations mixed in with GCSE's and A Levels!!

Honestly, work at it and nothing is impossible!

I don't see why not but it will require time, committment and sacrifices. My advice would be to do it in partnership with a decent teaching pro as there will be times when you are going to need some help but initially you need to be getting out and playing as much golf, especially competitions as you can and get that handicap down.

What you might want to do is keep some kind of record of your rounds (Scoresaver 2 is ideal) so that you can see what areas need more work doing and get your pro to devise some sort of action plan.

You have to bear in mind that once you hit single figures, it starts to become much harder to shave those extra few shots off. I guess if you want any form of inspiration, Poulter was still working in the prop shop at 16 and was playing off 4.

I have to be honest though (and from experience) it is very difficult to get there and stay there at that age with all the distractions you are going to face in the next few years and that in all honesty very few actually get to Cat 1. Nothing wrong with having a goal and ambition but be prepared for some heartache and disappointment along the way and accept that you may never get there.

If you have the desire and put in the work then single figures is easily doable in a year.... even Murphthemog can get to single figures and he's sh*t ;)

When i was 16 i was off 6 i think which was fairly straight forward to get to, its when you hit cat1 then things start getting a bit tricky cos you only come down .1 a go....

That's a bit harsh!! :D

I think you're confusing his golfing ability with his dress sense.... :D

Oi!

I'm not biting. Nope. Not me.

LMAO!!! :D :D :D :D

Love yooooo really :) :)

TBH I'm absolutely chuffed for you that you made it to singles especially with that whole attic/ladder/fall/ouch thing that you went through recently.

Young chap up the road has just had his 2nd or 3rd year playing and he was +1 at the start of the year , dont know how hes done this year though

Definitely do-able at your age, so long as you get a driving licence and a car when you're 17, unless you live within walking distance of the course. You need to get playing a lot. And don't let university, drink, work or women interfere. That lot set me back 20 years.

At seventeen, nothing else should matter. Look what happened to Tiger. Years of his youth spent playing golf and only as an adult does he start the whole wine, women and song effort. To the detriment of his marriage.

By all means, spend as much time playing that makes you happy. Be realistic about what your goals are, and that they're achievable. If you want to turn Pro then you will have to exclude all else. If it's for personal satisfaction, don't throw away all the good stuff about being seventeen. Balance.

At 41 do I wish I was a better golfer? Yep. But I took it up late in life as I spent alot of my time on another sport. Do I regret not taking it up sooner. Nope. That's life, and I've enjoyed most of what I've had so far.

Apologies if it sounds like a surmon. You sound like a good kid, and it's great that you have ambitions.

Good luck.
