Do you know your shot shapes and how to hit them? Here's a QUIZ

Pic 1. Both Fades - Red one just started further left. Done by clubface being square to target, but swing path out to in, as his stance suggests.
The guy is standing very open anyway, so hardly surprising ?

Pic 2. Both Huge Slices - same swing path but clubface more likely to be facing right of target.

Pic 3. Left shot is a straight pull, caused by an out to in swingpath with the clubface facing straight left too. Shot on right is a nice Draw too.

Pic 4. Red one is a Huuuuge slice. Right one is a pushed fade ?

I'm sure lots of us are familiar with all/any of these over the years .......??

Surely a fade starts left and then breaks right (for a right handed golfer), a slice starts right, then breaks right too.
A draw starts right and then breaks left, and a hook starts left and breaks left.

A straight shot, well, that's just rare.

Pic 1:
red= fade, aim left, normal swing but don't break wrist before impact.
yellow= fade, aimed straight, ball moved right of centre.

Pic 2:
red= slice, aimed left, left face open at impact
yellow= slice, aimed straight, ball moved too far right.

Pic3:
red= draw, or 12.5yd draw as it appears to me it went 12.5 yards in the air. Aimed right, break wrists at impact.
yellow= left = draw aimed left right = draw aimed right

Pic 4:
Slice with fade

What do I win?

Wow, some interesting replies there. Seems the game is a lot easier if there's a 40mph wind blowing :D

here's the shot I actually hit:

My target line is to the right of the big bunker so I aligned myself at the little pot bunker 250yds from the back tees (dotted line) and tried to hit down the line I was aiming whilst keeping the face of the club pointing directly down the target line.

you can watch it here if you're really keen!! :D

Note: I've edited this post to make it less confusing. :D

I do know picture 4's an "Oh bugger that's gonna be hard to find"

:D :D

I'm beginning to wish that I HAD hit it into the trees... I'm confusing myself at the moment!! :D :D :D heh

I just made a pic with my target line where I was aiming and turned a perfect fade into a slice !! Even though I KNEW I'd hit a fade :D

Funny ol' game. :p

Also i heard someone on here played a block drive?

What is that?

That used to be my shot...all the time!

A blocked driver is where the ball starts right and goes dead straight. A push with no turn either way at the end.

Quite a common shot for draw-ers of the ball. Goes a fair distance too as the path and face are spot on with each other.

Hold the bus a sec. Did I not read something about a slice going 290 yds here, or am I getting too old to be allowed in here on my own? :D

Yeh I edited the post. I drew the target line in the wrong place and it looked like I'd hit a monster slice. As I was writing it I was thinking "this can't be right".

A schoolboy error, don't know if I'll ever forgive myself... it was an uber long power fade ;)

Interesting that the words Draw and Fade don't make it on the 9 shot charts. Is that because a draw is a mild hook and a fade a mild slice?

Totally agree. It's a shocking byproduct of my lame stack and tilt efforts. Terrible swing plane too which I've addressed already. I'm also trying to come to terms with my new irons at the moment which weigh less than my old clubs so seem to float outside the line a tad....and of course my driver which I've found out hasn't got the right shaft for my swing speed.

...did I mention I've changed my putting grip too??? :D

Nightmares I'm having... nightmares!! ;)
